It's deceiving for VW to deliver cars with that thing on the dashboard. There's nothing on the VW site, in the brochure, or in any other documentation about this.
If my Polo was delivered like that, I just couldn't accept it.
Technically you're not losing functionality, you're just not gaining it. Its a clunky one-size-fits-all solution due to the fact the Trendline and 77TSI don't have the RCD510 or MFD+ which, AFAIK, either is required for the 9W7 (or the better 9WZ) to function.
what is the difference between the 9w7 and 9wZ ?

9WZ is basically the 9W7 with rSAP. If your phone supports it the car becomes the phone, giving you better reception and the ability to read sms's and even have them read out to you, I believe you can even send out pre-canned SMS replies. If your phone doesn't support rSAP (ie, the iPhone4) then it just operates the same as the 9W7, but you can still operate it all from the MFD+ screen or the RCD/RNS 510. I believe they're the same price on ebay so it's best to grab it instead.
That function only works with the RNS 510 unit, not even the RNS unit available in the 6R which comes with the RNS 310. I thought it would be awesome and was going to buy one, but then I spoke to a few people overseas and they said no dice with the RCD 510....
Just spoke to the dealer. You can have the Bluetooth module removed or not installed prior to delivery - just as well!
Where did you hear that... I just got told this..
Hi ,
With regards to your request, we have had a look at the installation of the System in the vehicle and as the car is as it is from the Factory, we are unable to “uninstall’ the Blue Tooth, as it would leave a hole on the Dash.
Kind regards,
WTF?

agreed. I'm going to the dealership after work today to take a look and tell them where they can shove the touch unit.

so i picked my GTI up today - I must admit while the touch bluetooth unit isnt ideal, it DOES interface with the MFD+ and RCD510 - but not 100%. For example you cant use the RCD510 to browse address book - and of course there is no Bluetooth streaming.
Debateable if its worth hacking the car up to remove it and put the 9w7 unit in now, since I am happy to use MDI to play music from my iphone.

Congrats on picking up your “5"door today.
can you provide some more info on the Bluetooth, eg is yours mounted to the left of the RCD510? Is the docking port attached to the dash with double sided tape ( as was advised by my dealership) can it easily be removed?
could you post some photos of it in and out of the docking port at all please ligx?
I don't want mine installed, so hoping they don't put any holes in the dash at production level.

Looking forward to the pics and also interested in your thoughts on this tacked on BT unit, like many on here Im not overjoyed at the inclusion of this unit instead of the proper integration with the radio unit that we know is possible.
Can I ask, did the car come through with the comfort pack / radio / MDI / BT as non cost options? I have had two customer service guys from VGA tell me different things about the spec of MY12.5 Polo GTI, one said it was in (as per this thread) and the other told me this lot was not... very confusing...
my car was built in the 22nd of December 2011 and it included the MY12.5 upgrades including the Comfort pack (climate control etc) + Bluetooth - all of which I did not specifically order.

Thanks mate, info very much appreciated. Annoyingly the brochure and VGA's ordering system still list all these things as options not standard, so dealers are still selling people this kit.
