Nope, just as bad, leaning toward slightly better.
Hi Gavs - it would be very interesting to get a real indication of the scale and variables of the problem. Is it possible to poll only the 6R forum and ask something like: High oil usage Y/N, Model TSI/GTI, CAVE/CTHE, and Running in procedure Gentle/Hard?
Cheers
Jim

Tried that when we first were looking at legal action but the problem is that people are more than happy to complain but when I requires them to actually do something to gather results, they don't want to play anymore...
We now have 2 members with CTHE motors that are burning 1L/<5000 kms which is still unacceptable. My CAVE motor burns 1L/10,000 kms and Kawabanga is even better, 1L/12,000kms. Yes we might be lucky, but why is there still such a variance...

Even that number is too high to be perfectly honest, but I'd be happy with it. Mine seems to be using about 1L per 4000km at present. It's just had an oil change, and I'm hoping that rate might start to drop.
Just broke my all time record - 1.3litres/393 km. New motor scheduled for 3 June. It's getting worse by the day, think I need to cart 5litres in the boot instead of 1 litre I currently do.
I don't think you take an oil sample buy capturing a sample mid-stream (it isn't a urine analysis).
The reason why we collect the mid stream while draining out the used oil from the oil sump is to make sure the metals at the drain bolt threads, the washer and the sump do not contaminates the actual sample. Another good way we take oil samples from the engine is by using a vacuum pump that attaches to the sample bottles provided by the lab.
Finally did my used oil analysis on my car. Done 18,000km and oil mileage is only 3000km using normal USA formula Mobil1 5w30. After I drained out, I trying out another 504/507 specs oil and this time Mobil1 5w30ESP formulation. I have done 900km and oil never moved on the dip stick! I will be sticking to this new oil and extend the oil drain interval to 10,000km instead of 5000km.

This is how we do it.
Probably because it's less messy / less chance of spillage. We can't afford to have any oil spillage so our risk assesment / safe work method procedure would have vetoed that method.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
I keep being told that is the cure! I push it hard on my consumption test and it hardly used any. Might be true
Could you guys please elaborate more on this? Try to avoid dumping the pedal at low revs?
My car is using less oil now after being serviced by Exoticars (using Liqui-Moly). About 1/5 drop in 1200km compared to oil light coming on in 1000km.
Don't know if its to do with me being more lead footed (don't think so), or the different oil, but the fuel consumption has also gone up a bit. So maybe driving it harder is better?
