  • Hi Guys

Brought my car in for its 5th oil consumption test now (done 10,000kms) and its still losing 700ml per 1000kms..the dealer has advised me there is second updated ventilation valve, air connection pipe and ventilation hose for the engine which will decrease the use of oil...has anyone had this done to their car yet?
This will be the second attempt at changing the hose etc..hope it works this time as I am getting sick of having to bring it in all the time for an oil top up!

    Gavs..what exactly is Fuchs?

    Thanks
    Scott

    • 2200km from my engine rebuild, NO oil has been burnt. There is obviously a build issue with these engines. Push for engine rebuilds! I went from 1L/1000km to no oil usage at all.

          Hi Zakarados

How did you push for an engine rebuild?

Is there any way of having the cats inspected?
Just cleaned the car and i swear there was 4-5mm of black stuff around the tailpipes
Needs oil as well. Need to drive it upto temp and inspect but coldish the stick was bone dry.

Park it outside VW with signage uses more oil than a rotary or something.

I know ill be taking toolboxes of the truck and putting the car on the tray and leaving it parked outside the dealership with big banners if they dont play ball.

Mine's the CAVE engine (the older engine even though my car was built after June 2012 and is a MY13)

Bringing the car in on the 9th August..will get the part numbers for you when I find out...the part number for the first hose was HST2025520

                • kevinctr,

First part number is crankcase ventilation hose (part number 03C 103 474 AD) - you would have that one done already as well as engine management software update that accompanies installation of this part.

                  The other 2 parts are:
                  - connection pipe between air intake and intake manifold (part number 6R0 129 684 E)
                  - ventilation hose for the air intake (part number 03C 103 558 AA)

Made absolutely no difference to my CAVE - all snake oil for mine. I got a new CAVE engine 4000kms ago, not a drop of oil used since. I ran it in like I stole it & have driven it like a manual since replacement.

Get in contact with the service manager or general manager of the dealership you are dealing with for engine oil issues. Complain over and over again. Advise them you know people with no oil consumption, no soot on the car, no dramas at all. Be careful not to be too aggressive, be patient and do everything they say.

I had much more to complain about as I had 4 break downs within the first few months of ownership due to spark plugs fouling.

After the rebuild I am experiencing what the Polo GTi was meant to be like from new. fingers crossed things don't go bad again, but with 2000km+ with no dramas, it's looking good.

First off, I've taken at look at the TPI list and as of yesterday, there was no updated pipe available. Smoke and mirrors mate, as per typical VW service staff. All the are doing is feeding you bulltish in the hope you will shut up and go away.

Secondly, Fuchs is a major lubricant brand based in europe.

                      • Ok guys....thanks for all your responses...I will get this "updated" pipe installed as they have recommended. I doubt this will solve the problem but like Zakarados suggested, I will do everything they tell me to do, stay calm and not be too agressive and hopefully I will get a new engine soon.

                        Cheers

                          • Just a quick update after my hose replacement. went in for a oil consumption test came out doing 400mL/1000km. But i did a few motorway trips so hopefully the next oil consumption test will take me over 500mL and then an engine rebuild.

Funny that. Mine was supposed to have used 400ml/1000km straight after the installation of the breather hose. Prior to that it used 250ml/1000km for 9000km, and it has used 250ml/1000km over the last 3000km...

I've been doing my own little consumption tests based on driving styles. I've had the pipe and consumption tests but always comes back around the above figure too.

I've found that the harder you drive (manual mode, giving it some stick), oil consumption lowers. If you go in Drive, easy acceleration etc, consumption rises.

If you're doing a lot of motorway driving it will be probably be less!
