Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Just had official oil consumption test completed today - 1.62litres/1000km. Yes, didn't make 1000km before oil light came on. used 1.4litres in 866km. Was wondering if I'd run the engine dry as low oil light came on at 809km & had to make it to the dealer.

What do you reckon they should do now? Have had all TSB's done.....

Long term average is 1.44l/1000km, so getting worse. Anyone better this? CAVE of course.

          • Ask for a full refund or replacement engine. HOLLY CRAP 1.44L per 1000km is freaking ridiculous!!! If my car was doing that I would have used 68.4L of just oil in my 45,000km of driving - i wonder could it then be considered a two stroke?

Should ask for a complimentary 20L drum of oil to be delivered to your door each month.

But in all seriousness that is just appalling and I would be going to great lengths to voice my opinion - VCAT or by other means

              • He could probably do away with regular oil changes, such is the consumption rate of his engine!

My father in law's new 50hp Etec outboard uses less oil than that!

In seriousness though fontana302, go to the dealership, ask for their course of action to fix the car properly. If they cannot come up with a solution, ask for a full refund on the car, not pertial because of the expense in time and also oil you have had to just keep the car on the road. if they refuse, go to the ACCC and also contact consumer affairs in Brisbane. They know about these issues already so they should be able to help out.

May I suggest you also make with RossP (that is his forum name), our esteemed collegue who is literally taking the fight to VGA in court over this issue. I emplore you to get in contact with him as he has the most experience dealing with your exact scenario.

                  • Guess what? VWA wants to run ANOTHER oil consumption test. The reason is when they saw the pictures of the back of the car (they were sent from the dealer to VWA with a claim) they expected that it would be covered in oil! The reason it wasn't was because I wash the crap off each week, wash the chrome tail pipes as well because if I don't I can't wash it off & have to polish the entire back of the car - I'm also very fastidious.

So I washed the car on Sunday (had ~650km from oil top off by then), car was clean!. Drove it to the coast on Monday, where it rained so was still clean by the time I'd done the 866km back to the dealer after the low oil light came on same day. The dealer has seen it covered in crap before.

So now they say don't wash the car before bringing it back in next time so VWA can see the oil!!!!! (they'll wash it for me)

I think I'm getting ready for ACCC, Fair trading, 6:30 TV as well as my solicitor. My reasonability over this is now running out.

Do it man, don't take their crap lying down anymore! It is soooo far out of their own specs, all they are doing is screwing you around in the hope that you will just leave them alone and leave them be.

So what's the issue. You are running-in the engine.

Has it used it progressively over 8000km or is it increasing or is it reducing?
