504/507 is a higher grade of engine oil due to the better basestock oil used and higher HTHS(High Temperature High Shear) specs.
If I am not wrong it has a lower oil lose rate than a regular synthetic oil.

That may be the case, but it doesn't explain why vehicles sold in Europe, most of which are on the LongLife regime and thus using 504/507 oils, are experiencing the same issues. Neither does it explain why other similar engines in the VW empire using 504/507 oils are not experiencing similar issues.

It's highly probable that this is mainly a manufacturing/quality issue and not so much to do with the oil itself.

Using a more viscous (thicker) oil would be akin to treating the symptom, not the problem.

2000km into my 2nd engine and got an oil warning. I used to run out every 1100-1200km, so this is a little better.

Dude - time to hit your local consumer affairs and reject the car. That's completely unacceptable and you do have a right to push back on the dealer and ask for your money back. I'd be contacting your local state authority!

It might be better, but its far from right. A few hundred mils of oil every 2,000km i could live with, but not several litres within a thousand km's. Thats not right at all. Sorry.

Absolutely agree. I had an oil light warning at 2100k and after a top up im about half way on the dip stick after 500km. So doesnt look good at my end either.

Anyone actually get the new part ordered in from their VW dealer?

Also would changing the type of oil fix this problem ?

I've got a similar issue. First engine, at around 1900kms. I had to get a top up, as the oil was past the end dipstick. Then at 2700kms, topped it up as it was only showing a quarter left on the dipstick.

I noticed my engine used a very small amount of oil when it had the Castrol SLX III (the stuff VW uses) in it, but now im using Liqui-Moly 4200 and the oil level hasnt budged.

This recent "PCV Fix" isnt the solution to the oil consumption issues these 1.4 twincharger engines are having - there is quite obviously a more pressing issue with the pistons / piston rings etc that is allowing oil to be burnt in the combustion chamber.

Just ended my 1.000Km test with the new oil, but consumption seems to be the same (about 0.1 liter every 1.000Km)

I recently got my MY 12.5 Polo GTi and not liking what I am reading.... How are you guys noticing the oil loss? Is there significant drop on the dip stick? I currently have 600km and no movement in oil as yet, although I am babying the car for the first 1000km for peace of mind.

Do you guys drive the car hard to experience oil loss or just daily to work?

Autobarn and it was about $80 for 5L

I think by 3k i will do a oil change witht he Moly and also replace the oil filter and plug. Where did you get your Moly from and whats the price like? Thanks

DONT baby it - thats the worst thing you can do. Once the engine is warm, load the engine up up as much as possible (floor it from low RPM in say 3rd or 4th gear and really get the turbo/supercharger working the engine.

From what I've gathered, there doesn't appear to be any strong correlation between driving style and oil consumption.

Some baby it, and don't experience oil consumption - but others do.

Some cane it, and don't experience oil consumption - but others do.

Some experience oil consumption from the get go; others haven't had any problems whatsoever.



Until more concrete information comes to light, all I can suggest is to worry less and enjoy your new purchase. Don't cross the bridge until you get to it, etc. Good luck.
