4. Even though the GTI has a power assisted oil circulation system to cool the turbo bearing down when engine is shut off, try to idle the car for 1min before shutting it down.

I agree almost on everything you say about break in period and usual way to drive the GTI (furthermore your suggestions can be applied to every kind of engine). This way could help to reduce oil consumption, but I don't think is the major cause or a solution...

BTW, the GTI has a power assisted WATER circulation when engine is shutted of (15minutes)...

I also think if it was a question of the running in method VW would put those suggestions in the manual to save their bacon and not be looking for solutions for it...it is pure and simple design flaw. I imagine that when they were giving out awards to this engine all of the design team wanted to be on stage to be recognised but as soon as they started to look for a culprit regarding the oil issues all of a sudden everybody was on sick leave

Thanks for pointing the error out. Thats why proper cooling down is still necessary on the VW. I used to drive Honda only and I seen a video of Honda Reving every Vtec engines at redline for few mins after its transfered into the car. Its simply to make sure everything is running well and to break in the pistons rings. Maybe VW dont do this step?

G'day Dav - wrote a letter to VW - something fishy - not confirming anything about this so called 'PART' to fix the problem. All they tell me they are aware of it.

I am waiting for my 1st service - if not resolved there will be lawyer letters following....

This is a faulty engine with 15.000Km and more than 1 liter per 1.000Km...

Cylinders seem to be ok, head is not so encrousted...
I can't say about piston, brown is for sure exhaust side, but doesn't seem so bad below rings...

Someone can say if oil consumption for this engine could come from upper side (intake - oil separator) or from lower side (inappropriate piston ring's sealing)??

In my own experience it seems the piston rings are not sealing to the cylinders but I wonder if its all 4 pistons or just 1

Ax should still be CAVE, but I'm not sure...
CAVE engine is still mounted also on MY2013, for now...

Yes AX is still CAV...

HI,looks like its pretty common experience as my gti del last dec done 800km,the oils gone too.Had that top up once and now is about 2500km.Still check weekly as i was told they would consider a comsumption test when its about 5000km.Still enjoy the drive though theres are issues still on the waiting list.cheers tay

Hi guys,as to update changes ,currently at 3200km oils down 1/4 mark.when my 3rd fuel pump from a diff batch arrives from Singapore shortly,will start consumption test as well.they stated VGA wants me to run for another 1000km before new replacement parts consider.i am just singing along as its a beautiful car to drive till close to warranty period in 2014. Ok at 4100kms the oil light has come on and this is my 2nd gti. 1st gti was fairly low at 5k Kms as that's when I did an oil change but I will be changing the oil tommorrow 900kms earlier.

My Oil light came on at the exact time, topped it up with 0.7L. How has yours been since?

how early have people been noticing the oil go down on the dipstick km wise? and whats the quantity from full on the dipstick to it not showing at all?
