  • Well it's been a bit quiet on the Tig front for a couple of reasons - first is there's not much more to do (without overdoing it) and second I've been busy with other projects. If anyone is thinking about DIY installing a pool in their back yard then all I can say is you should seriously consider paying someone else to do it!!

I did replace my boot latch on the Tig before Christmas as the boot decided it wouldn't close and then subsequently after closing decided that it wouldn't open (which was probably better than having an unsecure car). Apparently it's not an uncommon problem - just a little inconvenient and had to pay for the replacement lock mechanism (and installation) now that it's out of warranty

Been looking around at some potential Tig replacements as I'm close to hitting 100,000km and probably will move the car on before the 120,000km service and also while I still have some rubber left on the current set of tyres.

Still undecided as to whether I should return it to stock or sell as-is. Be interested in feedback from those that have been through the exercise. I'm guessing a stage 2 Tiguan with a noisy(ish) exhaust is only going to appeal to a small market.

I think you'll find it much easier (and more profitable) to part the car out, if you're prepared to do the work. A lot of the kit on your car would be easy to sell on to forum buyers as well. Which reminds me, I really need to advertise/sell my FIS... it's just sitting on a shelf. :-/

      • good to hear that your Tig is approaching 100,000km without any drama. my wife's Tiguan is still at 38,000km and i expect to keep it until 60,000km-80,000km before upgrading to a X3 or X5.

It's a tricky one - just went through the same exercise and after advertising up north with zero response I brought car down to Bne where staying with friends for Christmas and advertised with no mention of mods as have found from previous experience that it scares normal punters away. Had couple of tyre kickers but no-one serious, even though had very cheap price on it. Bad time of year though. Ended up selling to someone from Melb who saw it on forum and wanted all the extras! Suggests to me that unless you have buyers lined up for mod bits, it may perhaps be better to leave them on as makes the car more unique and attractive to an enthusiast. Lets face it, even though the VW's in general are becoming more common, the Tigs are still relatively unknown which seems to make them unpopular with general public used to jap and korean family haulers. Could just be my luck though, as I never seem to get back what I put in to a car when I sell (sigh)

When I sold my Tig, i did so within 2 weeks of advertising it in Brisbane for the asking price which was reasonable and not on the low side. It did go to a family who already had a Tiguan so not to the uneducated public .....

I sold it completely stock as well, so from a full Stg 2 down to stock .....

            • So it's 1:1 for returning to stock vs leave as stage 2. Though I'm with you Adam that I'll get more by parting it out and selling off the bits than I will if they're still bolted to the car. Also I think Tiggy1 just got really lucky that the guy was a car nut and wanted a tuned car anyway rather than keeping it stock.

In reality I'll probably leave a lot of the suspension upgrades on as it'll cost me more to remove the bits than I will get for selling them.

So if there's anyone interested in any parts before I put up a parts for sale thread, send me a PM. This will include things like: Haldex Sports mode controller, AutoPolar FIS+, Full Turbo Back Exhaust (or could just do cat-back), S2T silver paddle shifters, carbon engine cover, sprint booster. I'd also look at selling the OZ Racing wheels, however I'd need to get some nice stock wheels to go back on the car. If I was going to go back to stock wheels, I'd probably change the Eibach springs out also.

Ummm just one question.... in what scenario can a performance Haldex controller be useful for your wife's car?

Pffttt X3 or X5. Get a proper SUV instead of a soccer mum mobile with run flat tyres which can't even go off road!

                      • If nobody wants the car complete then I think what I'll do is part-out the easy to bolt off bits and pieces and leave the rest.

If it's going to cost me more to return it to stock then it may as well stay on the car.

Still undecided whether to take the DP/tune off or leave it. As the DP is a single piece unit it means dropping out the tail shaft which is not a job I'd do on the driveway.

For those that have expressed interest I'll PM you before starting a parts for sale thread.

Yeah just happened to be that someone that came out on one of our recent cruises was looking for a car and had pre-approval for exactly how much I was looking for.

Nice to know it's going to a good home and will be appreciated.
