Maybe leave your current Tig as it is, then try and make the new Tig hell of a lot better in every possible way

Yes but given my wife will be driving it to take the kids to school and has already curbed my OZ Racing wheels once I think it's a waste to leave some of the parts on the car. Plus it means I don't have to spend those $ again and can instead put those $ towards more performance mods.... perhaps even a BBK

Now wife is saying we really ought to take the (smaller) Jeep Cherokee for a drive

      • Mate, I think you're stuck between a rock and a hard place

I know how it feels when the wife destroys a wheel, mine did it on my previous Golf R (OZ Ultraleggera in matte black).
She drove for about 3-5meters along a sidewalk and the passenger side wheels were half matte black half silver.

        • Ok, if you are seriously considering an another Tig, how about going for an Audi Q3, and transfer all your mods to that and K04 ed it. Q3 is lighter than Tig due to aluminium hoods etc and got better interior than a Tig, but will still share most hardware parts between two platforms. Then you have something new and refreshing not a boring Tig again and can use most of the mods on the new platform And most importantly it will be faster than a K04 ed Tig.

I also know APR AUS is testing the MK7s now, and its looking good. Gen 3 EA888 to be the best yet (as you would expect).
Yeah, reason that APR and some other tuners getting high numbers is that these new Gen 3 engines got bigger more efficient turbos. But how long these engines will last with that power is a different matter! I am sure no tuner will test a car for long term effects on engines like OEM.

For the $15-20k extra I'd have to pay to get the 2.0litre Q3 I'd have a fully modded Tig for the same price. I'm just going to wait and see if they bring out the R-line in the Tiguan here in the next update due in a couple of months (I seriously doubt it, but am hopeful). Otherwise I'd look at picking up a 132TSI for a good price, installing the R-line body kit on it and going straight to a K04 kit (forget stage 1 & 2).

Looking around at a number of cars these days, the Tiguan interior dash/layout is starting to look a bit dated and really needs an overhaul to bring it up to current spec level (like Mk7 Golf). If they bring in the new Gen 3 EA888 engines in the next update I might just be swayed to get the new (2015) model.

I thought you said you are bit bored with Tigs Anyways Q3 s are not that expensive and definitely can have one under 50k. They are only 1555 Kg of weight relative to 1640 Kg of weight of Tigs. K04 ed it and you will be in better position than a new Golf R! That 100 kg of weight saving it very difficult to get by any amount of mods done to a Tig.

Also if you are trying to get full optioned Tig with all the bells and whistles it will be close to 50K anyways my one did cost me 49k+ with some discounts with some options. Of course it is your choice I just pointing out other possible options.

Alltrack is off the list. Unfortunately it's classified as a wagon (according to my wife). And any wagon is not allowed in our driveway

+1 Exactly. Without spending 2x as much it's hard to go past a modded Tig in terms of bang for buck. This is my dilemma and not one that is going to be easily/cheaply solved I fear.

We may become a 2 x Tig family yet

Hmmm. I think an import has too many issues to be a realistic consideration. I could imagine insuring it would be problematic and warranty non-existent... Coming from someone that is looking to modify their car too!
