Yes, though main difference is the location of the bolt for holding the accelerator pedal to the floor and the fact that the Tiguan has some additional retaining clips.

Also the Sprint Booster "adaptor" is now a better design. General concept is identical though.

        • OK after having the sprint booster in for a week I'll have to put it into the "worthwhile" mod list. I can't say it totally transforms the car but it does improve some of the bits that you just get used to as being a "characteristic" of the car.

Firstly getting off the line gets a big tick of approval. You only need to give a moderate throttle input for the car to respond and get you going swiftly. There's no longer a big hesitation while the transmission decides whether you really want it to shift from "eco" mode to something a little more assertive. A good squeeze of the throttle gets you going quickly and smoothly. Just like it should.

Second when turning corners and going around low speed round-abouts the transmission will kick down a gear when you squeeze on the throttle coming out of the corner. Previously the transmission would stay in gear and you'd be riding the torque curve until you got up to speed but now it kicks down and gets going.

That's about it. So are these two things worth it? For me yes, however for other people they may not be quite so fussed. The other thing to note is I already have a DSG tune which does make the car respond better in "D" anyway. However with the spring booster you don't have to give it a real bootful just a firm squeeze to get the result you're looking for - that's the big difference.

So I'd say the car now responds to my driving style a lot more how I'd like to. So instead of adapting my driving style to suit the car I've adapted the car to suit my driving style.

Now just to wait for the Haldex controller

          • Ha ! Good review about the spring booster now you made me to want one But I will have to wait until Easter to get one of these. I hope Haldex would be great for your car and looking forward for a positive review. Are you getting one with the switch or just the controller?

I'll likely get one with a cable switch but will probably leave the switch in the boot and not run it all the way to the cabin. I really don't want to be drilling any holes to mount it in the cabin.

If I could use some of the blank buttons next to traction control etc then I would seriously consider spending the time/effort to do this and make it look like an OEM install. Though with a push button it would only be selecting stock/race settings and not the one in between.

If it's anything like the sprint booster you'll play around with the settings to begin with to find the one you like and then just leave it there. Suspect it's going to live 99% of the time in "race" mode and may get changed back to "standard" for country trips. But even then I don't think it engages the rears when you're cruising on the freeway/straight country road so there's probably no benefit in changing out of "race" setting anyway... But I like to have the option

                  • Sprint Booster

tigger73, your two points as to why the sprint booster is a worthwhile mod both relate to how it affects some characteristics of the DSG transmission. I can't help but think that due to the 'shortness' of 1st in the MT (& 2nd to some degree), the sprint booster would make city traffic a bit of a pain for manual drivers...

Might have to wait for someone with a manual to chime in... Lucas, what's first gear like in your R??

I'm kinda tempted, but leaning toward putting the money toward Stg II...

It is a different unit between the auto/DSG and manual. Slightly different part# so obviously they are a different box (programming most likely).

If I had a choice between stage 2 and a sprint booster I'd do stage 2 for sure.

The sprint booster is great but it's like some of these 1%er things that make it nicer but if you had to you could live without it (though going back to stock now is a real drag).

Not sure if there are any other manual Tigs out there with one. I know Lucas has one in his manual Golf R and says it's an improvement.

Haldex Controller has been ordered.... I decided to get the non-switch Race mode only controller after I confirmed that the rears are not engaged in Race mode when driving on the highway. This would have been the only reason to get the switchable version IMHO. Why pay extra for a feature you're never going to use?

Yes I've toyed with buying a "sport" button, getting a bi-modal exhaust, active suspension and perhaps hooking up the Haldex and Sprint Booster as well but then I figure if I really wanted a sports car I probably should have just bought one instead of trying to build one out of an SUV.

However I would consider getting one of those soundaktor units hooked up to a sport button and reprogram it to pipe in an R32 engine/exhaust note. That would be pretty cool

                            • A couple of things I've been toying with recently... not sure whether either will eventuate

I've priced these up but it's about $1200. VW has them in stock locally. I'd be tempted to do it for $300-$400 but $1200 is seriously a lot of $ for a few bits of brushed chrome trims.

The other thing is some aftermarket headlights with new style DRLs:
