I wouldn't have attempted this with a 2WD as there were some sections where I lost traction with all 4 wheels. However this has probably a bit to do with the fact that my tyres are near end of life and also more sports oriented than off-road tread pattern as well as the road conditions at the time.
I've had similar experience with sliding down muddy dirt roads in a Landcruiser so it's not necessarily an issue with the Tig as poor road conditions will cause the most capable 4WD to lose traction. Needless to say I wasn't pushing it through these sections.
This experience also has me rethinking my next car choice as I'm now putting off-road capability as a "must have" as I certainly wouldn't have liked to drive down this road with just 2WD.

Must be new Haldex testing time Most people who tried a Tiguan off-road compliment its capability off-road and only limited by ground clearance and tires.

Yes I certainly agree that the Tiguan handles the dirt pretty well. On a graded dirt road it will sit flat and cruise at 100km/hr without any floaty feeling. Though I certainly wouldn't have attempted those speeds on the road I travelled yesterday.
It had been raining for 1/2 a day and road conditions were pretty slippery in places.

I would love both, but unfortunately I don't think either is going to happen.
Golf is just too small. I really need to be going larger than the Tig for the next car. Family is growing and space in the back is a premium.
Touareg is on my list too but unless I have a large windfall in the next 6-12months that's going to get crossed off the list too. And if I was going a Touareg it would be the base model and not the V10 R-line!!!
I was looking at the Octavia RS but I'm now having second thoughts due to the FWD. It was a concern before but now it's almost going to discount it from the list. Otherwise I think it would certainly limit the roads/conditions that I would tackle.
What do they call it these days when one googles themselves.. egosurfing?
Well this discussion all started when Ramee and I were comparing the number of views of our build threads.
There hadn't been a lot of activity (posts) on Ramees thread for a couple of days, however all of a sudden his view count surged.
I'm guessing it was a bunch of Google bots hitting his thread. Anyway one thing leads to another and we ended up doing some Google searches.... and the rest is history
Yes it's a bit of fun getting it dirty but has taken 3 washes to get it mostly clean again. Still have dirt coming out from behind the number plate and from around the tail lights.
