If thinking of replacing it, then you need to buy and replace the whole U-shaped chrome bit.
That just comes off if you flick it out from the sides.Last edited by aussietig; 21-07-2012, 07:09 PM.MY11 Tiguan 147TSI (SOLD)

Thanks for the tips. I've just taken the sticker inside that says SK0 419 091 E ASY. So what wld the airbag part number be that will match this exactly?
I'm yet to find out what the differences in the airbag part numbers but the one you're looking for is in this series: 5K0 880 201 (?) where ? is a letter from A to Q. This may be date related - haven't found a parts guru to shed light on this one yet.
My airbag is in transit - hopefully have it in the next week or so. If you can wait I'll let you know how I get on.

No, only the removing the airbag is easier with the special tool. Just undo the nut and push down on the s/w on one side and pull up on the opposite one, this should get it off the splines.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

hi guys, i have sourced a dsg paddle wheel with the R badge down bottom. does anyone know the part number for the blank badge with no R? I am putting this wheel into a passat v6 so it would fit better without the R, willing to swap if anyone wants the 'R' version.
thanks guys.

VW GOLF VI MK6 EOS CADDY PASSAT SCIROCCO DRIVER AIRBAG | eBay
Try that guy.
I just purchased a passat premium cluster from him. I purchased a wheel intact with air bag for about $800 shipped, figured it was just easier to get the entire unit. Probably a little expensive but easy and shipped in 4 days from europe

I've emailed a lot of the airbag sellers and they all say theirs will fit. I think as long as it's the right shape (for a sports steering wheel) and has all the same clips/fittings on the back you should be OK. I don't think there are too many compatibility issues with airbags (from other forums there appears to be more programming issues and incompatibility SWCM).

Yeah, it came with the cable and it cleared customers here in oz this morning. should have it by cob tomorrow according to ups. pretty good considering that i purchased it late monday.

Success!!!!!
12mm triple square bit arrived yesterday and the airbag came this morning (yes Saturday delivery). After a bit of mucking around with a screw driver and the clips on the back of the airbag it came out pretty easily in the end.
Needed a converter for the triple square bit to take from 1/2" drive to 3/8" for the ratchet but other than that it went pretty smoothly.
Threw a steering wheel fault when I turned it back on but drove down the road and the fault cleared.
Just waiting now to get it hooked up onto Vagcom and enable my flappy paddles...
