An update for everyone. Went for these rims in the end - products with 245/40R20 tyres. I tried a wider tyre but it didn't clear the suspension, same with a bigger profile. Without mechanical mods, spacers or similar, I don't think you can fit any bigger.
Had a slow leak (bead seal on the inside of 1 tyre) so took the opportunity to do some weighing whilst repaired. Bloody BJTM cracked the centre-cap while they were at it... I now have the VW caps on.
Findings:
Stock 16" with rubber = 20.8kg's.
My 19" VMR's with rubber = 24.8kg's. (reportedly 11.5kg wheel) Therefore a tyre weighs 12+kg's??
Just posting FYI !
Cheers.
EDIT!!! Thats what i get for subtracting 2 numbers without a calculator, then trying to remember the results a few hours later...

Thanks for the info mate.
It is interesting just how much these bits can weigh.
So long as you still feel it drives okay though there isn't a problem

Of course you can fit wider tyres on the Tig..you just have to get the wheels in a custom offset.
My Tig is running 22x9 front with 265/30 tyres and 22x10.5 rear with 315/25 tyres and i don't have and rubbing issues.

Sure you can but this isn't that common, or affordable for that matter.
I have plenty of room on the rear but at the front about a finger width between the inside of the wheel and the suspension and that's with a 40 offset. I may consider spacers and longer studs in the future so I can run a wider tyre. Then again I may not if my insurance company is reading this
