Possibly a 147 thing? Can't say I've seen it anywhere on mine and I thought I'd been through it very thoroughly.

Hi, Sharkie, I am getting delivery of my Tdi next week sometime and I ordered it with standard rcd310, I thought $3.5k extra for the RNS was too much. I am based in Melbourne, do have any idea where to start looking for the RCD510? I only found a place called Cobra who they only stock the RNS510 and nearly $3000 for it.

1st place to check with is actually your dealer. They do a lot of RCD510-RNS510 upgrades on RCD delivered cars to people who ordered the RNS's. As such they have a few lying around. They'd be selling those at around $500, a bit less if you haggle well.

Some have been selling on ebay and 1 last night went for $365 .......

Harding Performance supplies RNS510s as well (mainly to the VW dealers) and usually have a few swapped out RCD510s lying around. http://www.hp.net.au/

If you get hold of 1 its really easy to fit yourself. I posted instructions in the Care Cheat Sheet area.

The RCD510 is actually quite a good unit, 6disc changer and colour touch screen. Changes the look of the dash completely on the 103 and 125s ......

Much appreciated Sharkie. I will get on to my dealer and get the ball rolling.
Will keep you posted of the progress.

I called my dealer at Essendon VW today and his response was that they didnt have any at the service centre. I will probably buy one from Ebay or I will try Harding
I have one question, the only reason I want this is to use in conjunction with an aftermarket reversing camera, is it easy to connect it to this RCD510?

Damn that cheap, last time I was looking they were only available from england and about $800AU, ended up getting a Pioneer AVIC F90BT Satnav bluetooth etc resonably cheap when JB had a ridiculous Pioneer sale. You can also match it up with a revese camera setup which has a similar visual park assit grid like the factory setup.

I will probably sell my RCD510 soon...

I'm normally in Canberra... but travel a lot with work (am currently away at the moment).

I bought a 147TSI late May 09... and am only home one week a month on average. I upgraded to RNS510 at the start of Sept... so it is virtually brand new still.

Yet to work out if / when I will sell it... let alone how much.
2009 147TSI Tiguan, Deep Black Pearl Effect, Black Leather, Sunroof, RNS510, Bluetooth, and MDI.
                  Delivered 22 May 2009

The latest RCD510 has the reversing camera connections but the older one doesn't. You need to be very careful that you get the very latest version if you want to connect a RVC.

Derek and DJY, thanks for your advice. I am keen to get the RCD510 but as Derek suggested it must be the later version for camera compatibility.
DJY are you able to verify if yours has the camera connections, and we can do a deal if you want to sell.

                        I have no idea...
but as mine came out of a May 09 delivered 147 it may not be...

I saw the following numbers on the RCD510 which may help - as the back ot it - is just a big rectangle of two different styled pins and a hole for something.

Just had my first service (7500kms) and my mechanic did a Vagcom scan. apparently with the aftermarket speakers I get an error code which says my front speakers aren't working. Not really that worried but is there any way to get rid of this? He did clear it but it came back as soon as the ignition was switched on again.

Should be able to. With the AVC9000, the Vagcom reports an error saying it can't find the radio. They can disable that so it doesn't report on that error, but then I lose my steering wheel remote controls. So now every service I leave a note saying please don't disable the radio error, just leave it. Simon, I'm guessing they should be able to disable that reporting error (as long as you don't lose your speakers, but don't think that would happen).
