      Perfect fit ... no mods to anything required, takes 10min to fit ....

      • APR Prototype Downpipe Update

        Quick update on the APR Protoype downpipe ....

        Early testing on the dyno has shown a significant increase in both torque and kw across the rev range ....

        In fact the downpipe flows so well now that the rear silencer has become a bottleneck ..... the join from the restrictor (3" down to 2.5") on to the rear section has started to develop a bit of a blowback/blowpast/blowout ..... sounds quite unpleasant.... (this was the source of the earlier mentioned resonance)

        Next up in testing next week we will remove the rear silencer and see if a highflow back bit will liberate further extra ponies .... ....

        • Good to hear the downppe is working well.

          Looks like another wet weekend so I doube we will have 0-100 and 400m times for another week.

            • Tested today without the restricted rear silencers .... just over 4kw atw gained and mostly from 4500rpm onwards ....

              So theres your solution to the top-end clip ....

              Problem is, 4kw atw is not much for a spend of around $1K, so still up in the air if its economically worthwhile for APR to do it.

              I'm getting it the rear done regardless as I want a deeper sound from the Tig ....

                Yeh, I suspected it would make a difference - and 4kw ATW is significant. As you say though Sharkie, adding it all up, while we're looking at some big bucks for relatively small gains, they're still significant gains!

                    • Alas, no, family activities kept me busy all weekend ....

                      However, it will be done by Saturday morning prior to me running at the Brisbane Dyno day .... I'll even take it with ....

                      Any Tigs wanting to do a Dyno run, this Saturday JMac is organising a VWW event (see the Events section) and so far I'll be the only Tig running .... need more Tigs ...

                        Finally took the Gtech out of the box early this morning (on my way to fill the Tig up before the weekend's fuel price hike) and started configuring it .... there are so many settings to do (took 15mins and not done yet) ..... did a quick run to see if it was working, still some configs to do ... (weight rpm matching etc) ... In traffic on a 80km/h road did a 0-60 (3.29s) and a 0-100 (6.61s) .... no space and not wanting to draw too much attention with wild launches .... will do a proper test on the 100km/h highway stretch ....

                        400ms will have to wait until I find a suitable location .... I'd like to keep my licence ....

                          • Jesus, with a good launch, half a tank of fuel and the spare removed you could get it into the 5's I reckon for the 0-100.

                            • Yep, I'm confident of a high 5s even with a full tank and all normal things in the car .... did a normal (for me) start the way I always pull off from the lights .... purely to see what it does in day to day driving and not too scare the early commuters around me .....

                              EDIT: And to expand on this a bit more ... it means no high rpms or dumping the clutch .... purely a smooth pulloff with full throttle applied once moving ....

                              Rest of the testing to be done when its safe in an quiet and in a legal 110km/h zone ......

                              • 6.6 is still a damn respectable time, personally I'd be surprised at a 5 sec 0-100 though. I would think a low 6 would be the absolute limit.
