I’m also interested in what each of you has/is doing. If the Golf R exhaust requires too much modification to get “right” then you may be better off just going full custom.

But that’s also going to be a lot harder to replicate.

Also interested. I think the factory tiguan resonator to a mk7 r muffler should achieve a desirable outcome. I only have a muffler in the centre from when I tried a custom system and it was obnoxiously loud.

Interestingly the Golf R wagon has a different rear exhaust set-up to the hatch. This is the Milltek version:

If you could get this or the akrapovic exhaust option from a wrecked R would be awesome.

The Golf R exhaust is fitted! I kept the exhaust valve controllers on the tips and these are actually closed in default (as per pics).

As I have a res delete, the car now sounds like a Golf R with a res delete and exhaust valves closed.
There is no drone at all and farts on upshift are more pronounced than with the res delete alone.

I'm happy with the amount of noise, doesn't bother my neighbours and I get to hear the farts.
Really the Tiguan R-line should sound like this as standard.

Looks so good, well done! Looking into getting this done soon too!

              1. So did you leave the valve permanently closed?
              2. Is there a way to connect the valve box so that it opens on say sport mode?
              3. When you extended the quad tips, did you weld them back or clamped them?

May I ask how much it cost to get it done? So I can aim for that too when talking to exhaust shops.

Nice job! R-line's across the range were just a body kit but this is getting to sound like a Golf R. Be interested to hear what your feedback is for highway driving.

No issues with with drone on highway driving, tested it out last night.

Need to be able to open the valves up in sport mode or after 'x' rpm

This would be "ideal", however I think even with valves closed this is a big improvement both in terms of looks and exhaust note.

                        2. Is there a way to connect the valve box so that it opens on say sport mode? I'm sure there is but will take more time and cost $$$. The previous owner had an X-Force Varex Bluetooth exhaust fitted to his Golf R, cost him ~$4k.
                        3. When you extended the quad tips, did you weld them back or clamped them? Exhaust tips are welded on

May I ask how much it cost to get it done? So I can aim for that too when talking to exhaust shops. I got the exhaust for $200, cost $480 to fit. Res delete was $80. TOTAL = $760 which for me is excellent for an exhaust that is subtle enough and more importantly does not have any drone.

Other thing is if you want the exhaust to be like a Golf R + res delete + valves open all the time, you just have the tips welded without the valves as this person did.

Finally thanks to the others on this thread that helped with going ahead and finding photos of other Tiguans with exhaust mods. Were it going to be tougher to do/more expensive I wouldn't have been able to get the car to being closer to perfection (in my eyes anyway haha).

With the valves open isn't it still pretty quiet anyway (compared to an aftermarket setup)?

Interesting to hear what the valves being open all the time sounds like, especially if they have a aftermarket downpipe installed. Mine with CTS downpipe and stage 2 tune with stock rear muffler is pretty loud at full throttle..

A bit steep on fitting $$ but nevertheless, an awesome result!
