Other thing is if you want the exhaust to be like a Golf R + res delete + valves open all the time, you just have the tips welded without the valves as this person did.


Finally thanks to the others on this thread that helped with going ahead and finding photos of other Tiguans with exhaust mods. Were it going to be tougher to do/more expensive I wouldn't have been able to get the car to being closer to perfection (in my eyes anyway haha).

Thanks for the informative answers! Congrats on this, the sound and look really sets the rear end off!

Going to look into this in the next few weeks. I’m currently thinking stock Tiguan res + R muffler (valve delete)

The Golf R exhaust is fitted! I kept the exhaust valve controllers on the tips and these are actually closed in default (as per pics).

As I have a res delete, the car now sounds like a Golf R with a res delete and exhaust valves closed.
There is no drone at all and farts on upshift are more pronounced than with the res delete alone.

I'm happy with the amount of noise, doesn't bother my neighbours and I get to hear the farts.
Really the Tiguan R-line should sound like this as standard.

OEM downpipe but have deleted the resonator.

how did you go with removing the fake trim?

As per the others, loosen the clips on the inside of the fake exhaust trim and then a rubber mallet hitting the outside of the fake exhaust trim.

Ah cool. So its really just clips to be loosened right? There isn't any screws or wiring attached to it? I'm going to try and remove them myself (to try and prevent any clip breakage) before I hand the keys over to the exhaust folks.

I would leave it to the exhaust guys. I had a lot of dirt and gunk on the inside of the bumper which they used compressed air to help dislodge. Also the rubber mallet loosened up a whole lot too. You'll need to get it reasonably clean to loosen the clips.
I was there watching them and advising what other's experience was so they knew what to do with the rubber mallet.



As you can see, the reversing camera sensor wires above the fake exhaust trim would need to be supported in a higher position.

You can't see it in your pics but there is a little edge above the exhaust trim on the inside of the bumper. That's where I clipped my wiring.

Nice, super helpful. And just to clarify with the mallet, it’s hitting the trim from outside inward right? Ie you’re hitting in the direction of the car and not away from the car?

Loosen the clips first as much as you can. I'd high pressure wash the area first would probably also help to remove as much grit from the clips will make the job easier.

I tried doing it myself, but when you’re as old as me lying on your back, trying to undo clips and bash it out, I gave it away and left it to the exhaust shop.

Got around to doing more comparison audio, hope this gives a greater appreciation of the sound inside and out.

I noticed that I don't get the DSG upshift farts with launch control. I get it during normal driving, the intensity of the DSG upshift farts are dependent on how heavy the throttle application.

So I finally managed to get hold of a Golf R exhaust and am getting it installed on Thursday. The one I have got is from a Mk7.5 only done 10,000km so should be like new.

Also working on a way of being able to manually (via remote) control whether the valve flaps are open or closed. I think I have come up with something but want to wait until I get the exhaust installed and hearing what it sounds like before going down this track as there will be a bit of cost involved.

For you guys who have the exhaust already installed, is it possible to reach the plugs on the actuators without dropping the exhaust? I need to be able to get to them to plug the wiring in so want to know how easy that would be.
