Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Melbourne_Tiggy it would actually be good to see it run on the UGP dyno for direct comparison.

If they have a dyno day we can all go down for a bit of a chat and a dyno run. Would be good to get the community together.

To be honest, I’m not hugely interested in the dyno numbers, there are a few Russian APR IS38 Tigs that have been put on a dynojet and are making good power. If there is a dyno day in Melb I’ll rock down for a dyno and a chat, I prefer vbox/dragy timing for 0-100 and 1/4 mile. That’s for me the real world experience and comparison.

I am more interested to see the curve of the power and torque graphs than peak dyno numbers as area under the graph is what matters, not the peak number.

Any videos of yours 0-100, 60-130?

          • I had a few jpegs from my phone to upload, but it caused some errors on the upload.

When I’ve got some time, I might make a vid or two and put it on YouTube.

You worked out which turbo and setup will get you to 250kw @wheels?

            • With all this increase in horse power are any of you thinking about cornering stability?

I've been slowly putting together a shopping list of items as I wait for my first service to come around before I start spending money and whilst I have lowered springs on my list I've been wondering about sway bars and suspension.
Just putting it out there to see what you lot think.

                • Want a sway bar asap. Going to visit Harding when he gets some in and compare the Mk7R ones to my factory ones. I'm going to assumes it's the exact same just longer links..

Can't really go wrong with Racingline gear. It's good stuff.

                      • I’m pretty happy with the stock adapative suspension.....

On my previous k04 Tig I had ST height adjustable suspension, white line front and rear sways, superpro control arms and front and rear end links. Overall handled very well, however ride quality was sacrificed.

I think this time around the most I’d do is sway bars, however the KW DDC suspension is very tempting. I’ve heard good thing’s about H&R also....

                          Turbo swap?

My recommendation is to collect all the parts and get the install done at the same time. It’ll work out a lot cheaper in terms of labour cost than doing things but by bit and building it over time.

You need to pull the DP and intake pipes out to install the turbo so you may as well do all these at the same time rather than paying to install/remove and install again.

Good to know, although lowering the ride height a fraction is something I'd like to do early on.
Thanks for the suggestion of DDC suspension!

Yes a turbo swap. Either an OEM IS38 or a hybrid, not sure yet.

I'm looking at a stage 2+ going by my list at the moment.
CAI, DP (with CAT), upgraded intercooler, HPFP, oil catch can, ignition coil packs, upgraded spark plugs, uprated lower engine mount and torque link, even a turbo blanket!
Oh and ECU and TCU tunes to match. Looking at going with Etuners in Sydney for all this.
