Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I want to do a stage 1 APR on my wife's Tig but scared to, let along a full IS38 Turbo upgrade

I would hold of on Intake Hose unless 100% it fits Tiguan. I am learning the hard way that the intake sit close to the turbo than the mk7, see pics.

Tigger73 will chime in with a more educated response but in general EA888.3 is a pretty bullet proof motor. The DQ500 is VAGs strongest DSG box. Then there is the worst case scenario where something goes wrong, I know that I am my warranty now.

Couple of points to consider in terms of the risk when modifying a vehicle that VW may void the warranty:

-You could wait until 12 months to see if there are any faults with the Tig prior to tuning. This doesn’t remove the risk completely, but gives you some comfort.

-As others have said even if you tune, and revert to stock for servicing they may detect it. I’ve chosen to only service my vehicle at independent Vw specialists.

I’ve gone way beyond a simple revert to stock tune, and I made this decision considering all the risks. I absolutely love the Tig now with its huge power increase and smooth DSG, I honestly think it’s the perfect performance SUV. Just my 2c.
VW Tiguan 162 TSI Highline w/ R-Line & DAP. Mods: OEM IS38 turbo, APR IS38 98 RON ECU tune, TVS Stage 2 + with custom TCU tune, APR Downpipe and resonator delete, APR turbo inlet, VWR turbo muffler delete, APR pendulum mount, APR dog bone insert, APR Open Pod Filter (MQB), RAMAIR intake tube, APR Red Ignition Coils, NGK R7437-9 Spark Plugs, DBA T3 slotted rotors front and T2 slotted rotors rear, ATE ceramic pads front and rear Vbox: 0-100 4.1s

APR Australia are also working on bringing their APR plus warranty program here within the next year

          • Interesting fact about the Medium SUV Segment, the only SUV faster that the Tig is a Porsche Macan.

Confirming the intake hose fits the r600 and also the stock airbox. The Russian Tiguan was running r600 intake, racingline hose and turbo inlet.

I have used a MK7 GTI intake hose, by Ramair, on both my IS20 and IS38 and both fit fine (no kinks/abnormal bends).Note this is on a stock intake box and an APR turbo inlet.

I posted this throttle response adaptation in the vcds tweaks thread but didn't get a response about whether anyone has tried it and if it works?

I picked up a Mk7 Ramair hose and it doesn't seem to like the R600. Might pop by Harding Performance and compare hoses.

Yes looks like a reasonable difference in length.

I'm going to do the turbo inlet but probably stick with the stock hose because:

                    1) it allows more engine movement from the expansion joints and causes less stress on the intake which is fixed. APR actually does not warrant their intake if you use silicone hoses and offer a carbon "hose" with a flexible coupling:

                    2) nobody has proven that the stock hose is actually worse/gains for using another hose.

Racingline recommend using the intake hose with the r600 and refer to “power gains” although no dyno gains are listed. Its silicone so should flex with some minor engine movement. Although tiguan isn’t listed in terms of confirmed applications.

Racingline intake hose for r600 or stock intake

Revo dynoed their inlet, panel and hose combo and got a 12whp and 15nm increase, not sure what specifically can be attributed to the hose though.

                      Revo intake hose

Your ramair hose does look quite bent when attached to the R600, I’m on the stock air box and it fits well for me. Hopefully your replacement hose is a better fit. Did you manage to check with Harding Performance, whether the Racingline hose is a better fit?

                          • Review of TCU launch control at 4500 RPM

So I had a chance this morning to try out the revised launch control of 4500 RPM. The sound is a bit more aggressive (rally car sounding) at 4500, compared to previous 4000. There is a lot more drama and wheel spin launching at this rev, the car spun its front wheels for what felt like 1/2 a second before taking off, and there was also a very hard/rough noise when the haldex engaged and transferred the power to the rear wheels. I suspect that if this was done frequently I would be breaking something in the driveline.

The 0-100 time reflected this being a few tenths slower than my PB of 4.1s.

I will be reverting to the 4000 RPM limit as this was the most balanced of having the right amount of boost and moderate wheel spin to get you out of the gate and straight into crisp gear changes and the best 0-100 time.

Should try the vcds/obdeleven adaptation on the haldex. Might help awd be engaged from launch or engage sooner:

Thanks for doing the R&D on your car. I think 4,000rpm sounds plenty.

Hmmm what other plans do you have to get the last 0.11s?

Also what wheels/tyres are you currently running? Perhaps some more grip may get you a tenth??
