Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I will be watching your project, will be interesting how much power you will be able to get once whole tune project is finished
I wish I could try some tune on my CZPA but this is latest EA888 engine with budac cycle and not really much tune for this ECU locally available ,except to go external tune boxes . I am happy for now with some coding and get used to get bit more .
You may find some improvement/benefit in drive ability from a DSG tune.

    • Well as I originally suspected putting a significantly larger intercooler on actually has had a negative impact on performance. Not a lot but a little bit.

Ran a 0-100 this morning and was 6.14s or 0.1s worse than before.

This was actually what I thought was going to happen with a larger volume intercooler to fill.

It doesn’t concern me that much as I know the stock intercooler is going to be too restrictive at higher flows once the new turbo is fitted and the car is tuned.

It was pretty hot in Melb @ 37 degrees, what was the temp in SA....do you think that might have contributed to the slower 0-100?

I went out earlier in the morning and it was 23-24degC so I don't think it was ambient temps related. Temps were similar to the previous runs within a few degrees so I don't think that was a major factor.

It's funny the top end feels better but is actually a little slower. I'm not surprised as this was actually the result that I was expecting. I'm actually happy that it's not a significant effect given that I'll likely be driving around for another month or 2 like this.

Probably helped the other day when it was 41degC but I don't ever push it if i don't need to when it's that hot.

          • You will only see an advantage with the bigger cooler and stock turbo if you got a remap.

With stock everything you will have less heat soak now especially if you were driving around in Melbourne over the weekend.

Yes unless the stock intercooler is undersized it should be fine for standard map which this test supports.

Agree that it’s only for higher power applications that you’ll see a major benefit from the larger intercooler .

              • Have you disabled the torque reduction? I find it launches and takes off harder as it allows for a degree of wheel spin.

Of course I have zero data on this except me giggling like a little kid each time I take off.

Still haven't found the launch counter yet, might be in the long coding which might be undefined at the moment until someone works it out lol.

No still running the stock settings. Haven’t played with these yet.

I haven’t found the launch counter. Not sure if LC gets disabled after a certain number of launches.

Interesting I actually found the section in the owners manual telling you how to launch your Tiguan. Spun me out that it was in the owners manual.

                    • Work on the Tig has slowed until I have some more funds for the last few parts - HPFP and DP are the last 2 pieces of the puzzle to go.

I need to sell my 20" Kapstadt wheels to fund the last bits of hardware so if anyone is looking for a near-new set of 20" wheels in very good condition buy mine and help fund the project

                      Link to the ad: 20" Kapstadt wheels 20x8 ET41 - $1,500

And a picture of the wheels if you need a reminder:

How'd you go about removing the top grille (between the headlights) ?

There’s just a few screws to undo along the top and you can remove it.

                          • Decided not to sell the wheels as if I ever decide to trade it in I'll need the stock wheels to fit back on.

Took a few photos on the weekend:

Thanks to a couple of forum members for their pre-loved bits going into my build.

And on that news, car is heading into the workshop tomorrow to have the turbo, dump pipe and HPFP fitted and tuning done!

I have the 34 dog mount and racingline intake pipe also...if fitting the intake pipe yourself you need some lubricant to connect it onto the turbo inlet.. mine left coming for first few attempts.. sounded really good though with just turbo inlet

Which turbo you got going in?
