Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks. I think they're growing on me even more now. When they first went on I wasn't 100% sure but now I think they suit it even better than the stock Kapstadt's - particularly at the lower height.

The only thing that is missing now are some 255 wide tyres as the 235's are a little stretched.

    • Get some 255’s with the white writing in the sidewalk, I reckon it would look great. My Sportline‘s in the dark grey, no money for wheels unfortunately, am going to get an APR stage one and that will be it for me.
Towing a caravan with a tune, will need to drive it in eco mode and wedge some wood under the throttle so I can’t go WOT.

This is something I would like to do as well...
I'm sure the extra NM would be welcome for towing
Just need to pack well in the 'van as well, otherwise everything will be plastered on the rear wall of the 'van...ha ha

Yes to 255's but I think I'll pass on the tyre lettering. Wanting to go for the more subtle sleeper look rather than in-your-face-I-drive-a-race-car look

We would have gone with the dark grey if we couldn't get the black. I think there's some nice contrast with the silver trims, wheels, darker grey plastics and body colour.

If you want more torque then go stage 2

              • Is that a golf R turbo modified for increased flow?

Yes it’s a TTE475 so hybrid IS38 uses the stock IS38 housing but all new internals.

                  • what are you expecting at the wheels after this is installed, Australia's most powerful Tiguan?

** ah just reading back through you mentioned looking for 250kw atw and sub 4's, but questioned if possible to do it whilst maintaining daily driveability. TTE reckon their turbo's spool up quickly, be interested to hear how it drives following installation

                    • Yes should be mid 3’s 0-100 but will need some decent tyres to get traction off the line.

I’m hopeful of 250-260kwaw but we’ll see. And reason for going TTE475 was that it spools quickly - peak torque around 3,000rpm all the way to redline.

TTE do make a 535 but this is a bit more laggy and as soon as you start pushing 500+ you really need to build the engine.

So I’m looking to make good power but not push the envelope too much to the point you start breaking things... at least that’s the plan.

                      • Wouldn't say "stock" housing, as you can clearly see that the housing has been machined to fit a larger compressor wheel

3000rpm still seems higher than it should for peak torque to come on even with the hybrid turbo. Factory golf r with stock is38 reaches peak torque from 1850rpm at the engine. You would think this shouldn't change (rpm for peak output) when measuring at the wheels but all the dyno charts do not reflect this.

Ok then based off the stock housing so all the ports/connections are the same. Straight swap for stock turbo so there’s no new lines/connectors required.

                                I think you’ll find the IS38 spools up/hits boost/Peake torque at around 2900rpm:
