Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Reasonably impressive for a stock SUV.

This time around I'm making sure I have a good baseline for comparison

I terms of end game that is still up in the air. One of my main concerns is to maintain the drive-ability. High flow IS38's don't really come on hard until 4,000rpm. I'm looking at a punchy street car and not a track/drag car. Considering high flow IS20, IS38, hybrid IS38 pros and cons at the moment. It comes down to $ and bang for buck plus overall drive-ability in the end.

I'd like to get 250kwaw and sub 4's 0-100 but I'm not sure at this point whether this is something that I want to sacrifice the daily driving for and whether I can achieve both outright performance and responsiveness.
Bang for bucks is definitely IS38 stock turbo. Brand new for $2k or second hand for half that. Hybrid IS38s are x2 or more the cost, and from what I’ve seen don’t deliver twice the performance. Not sure about hi-flo IS38 and the incremental benefits over stock. In saying all of that it would be awesome to see a hybrid IS38 Tiguan with more than 400HP.

    • Use VCDS or OBDEleven and disable the torque reduction, feels like it allows a bit more slip and launches heaps harder

Yes IS38 is a reasonable option, however I don’t think it’ll take me to sub 4’s. But maybe I shouldn’t be aiming for this with a 2 litre 4 pot and still maintain a good response.

Pulled up, jumped out and took some shots, jumped back in and headed off. It's a roadway so I was trying to be quick ad not paying massive attention to how parallel I was parking. Black lines on the road are parallel but not going exactly straight either...

Reference to all 4 wheels not sitting level to see the new ride height properly.

Got a before and after pic side by side?

Yes road is not level. I tried some before / after shots at the workshop:

Ride is great. New springs absorb a lot of the small bumps better and are firmer / car sits flatter around corners.

You can feel that the COG is lower as there’s definitely less body roll.

I had the same Pro-Kit springs in gen1 Tig (125TSI) and there wasn’t significant drop in the back. I haven’t loaded this one up yet with bags of concrete but expect it won’t drop too much more when under load.
