  • MIB 2 dead?

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you guys have a wonderful time.

Yesterday my 2016 GTI gave me the worst present, I think the MIBii died on me.

I was on the phone when the Bluetooth disconnected and the screen became blank. The MFI showed "audio starting" until it showed "infotainment switched off".

I thought that once the car went to deep sleep, it'd be fixed, but no luck, this morning the issue is still here.

Here is the video of my problem.

I know the MiB ii has some bugs, but mine has been working almost flawlessly since I've had my car in October.

Do any of you have an idea of what I could do to maybe fux it until VW is back from their Xmas break?

    Thanks guys

Kiaorana: Hello again and merry Christmas (and bah-humbug!!). Difficult to phantom the problem from just a video, but it looks like there is no power to the MIB unit (just guessing). Have you checked the fuse on position #12 in the C fuse box - which is the one behind the glove box (see picture below)?
    Don
PS: Do you have a VCDS cable and if so, what does the autoscan report say about the module at address 5F?

      Hi Don,

Thanks for the Xmas wishes buddy.

It does have power as it starts for a couple of seconds before powering off, its weird.

I'm at my in-laws, I'll run an auto scan tomorrow when I get home. I'll post here. Thanks mate!

          Hi Don,

I finally got to run an autoscan last night. I only pasted the errors found. What do you think?

I'm quite worried to see so many faults. I'm waiting to hear back from VW Gold Coast to get an appointment, my MIBii is still not working.

          I'll keep you posted guys.

Kiaorana: Hello again . The proliferation of DTCs certainly does look daunting, but I suspect that all the "Databus" error messages have resulted from the loss of the infotainment CAN bus message in the Gateway module (address Hex19) - the 5 x CAN buses are all "funnelled" through the Gateway module, so it's understandable why the DTC has been registered here. Difficult to know what exactly has caused the Diagnostic interface to generate this DTC without additional fault information. But this fault occurred at 3,866 Kms (18 Dec. 2015) and it has occurred again since first registered (albeit it the DTC is considered intermittent).

Looks like the Media system really Sha# itself on Christmas eve and that it has remained off-line since. Not sure how making a telephone call at the time that this happened contributed to this fault - just coincidence I suspect!

Odd DTC for the Siren/Alarm horn on the BCM - happened much earlier. Is this unrelated to the major incident? Also not sure about the RLS error - may also be not related

Very interested in what the dealer finds - please keep us updated
            Don

              Hi Don,

I just spoke with VW and I'm on my way to picking up my car.

Apparently, all the errors are indeed related to the infotainment system. Unfortunately, they couldn't get it to work nor will they change it. They said that it was a known software issue and that VW was working on a fix. He couldn't tell me how long it will be before they come up with it.

VW of America has already released the patch, so hopefully it won't be too long before VW Australia catches up.

One interesting thing, the guy from VW mentioned having updated my ECU. I wonder what has changed.

Anyway, I'll keep this thread updated once I get my issue resolved.

              Happy new year!

Kiaorama: That's outrageous - but sadly, typical of VW Australia!

So, in essence, VW Aust. are saying that the infotainment Unit in your car is not of merchantable quality because it has a known, systemic fault that makes it unusable, and that they can't (won't?) tell you when they will fix it and they won't replace it!! Only VW Aust. would react in this manner!!

I would suggest that you contact VW HQ, but I suspect that you won't get any further resolution to the problem. Incidentally, if you do contact VW Aust., count how many times that the Customer (don't) Care folk can say NO in a single telephone call - my number is 23 times)!

If your information is correct, we should be seeing a lot more incidences of catastrophic failures of the infotainment unit (MIBII?). Should make many more recent VW customer's (not) happy!!
                Don

PS: Did the service manager explain why the CAN Gateway module recorded the infotainment BUS failure on 18th December, but the MIB unit died on 24th December?

I've been waiting for a fix since July last year.
Currently taking the dealer to NCAT as I'm sick of being ignored - they also admitted to me that there is no guarentee the patch is going to solve my problems.

I have thread on Whirlpool forums about it, see below - service from vw is disgusting!

Thanks for the link, I paid almost $60K + lawyer costs and now NCAT costs - close to $1000 extra dealing with their crap service.

I've also been waiting for a fix. This information from the US leaves us with some hope at least

I'm sure it's all stock standard wording (and in this case all cars currently fit the bill anyway) but it talks to only doing the update to cars within warranty??

To those with issues, does this mean you have cars with no radio, bluetooth etc and it's just too bad until VW get around to it?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Far out! I spoke with VW customer service yesterday who appointed a case officer.

I know it sounds far fetched, bit given what's going on with the emission scandal, if they can't find a solution, I know for a fact that a current affair would be interested in hearing from us.

I have a blank screen every morning when I start the car (since I bought it on 28/7/15), it can last from 2 minutes right up to 15 minutes.

So that means nothing that comes through the ICC is available.
My garage is on a 90 degree angle to my house and I reverse out and swing around to exit the driveway forwards, when purchasing the Golf I thought how handy it will be to have a reversing camera especially with a 2yr old and a 4yr old - And what pi$$es me off is that I have never had the reverse camera work in the whole time I've owned it!
It makes my blood boil every morning when I leave home knowing the smug vw customer care pr&^ks have fobbed me off and put my problem in the too hard basket.
