Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I think either there is a VCDS setting, which does not let me to update POIs or my unit's firmware has to be updated in the service.

Update: sorry, originally I put an incorrect map version in my posy, now edited.

      Same error message.

Every time I plug in the USB or SD card the unit says "software update available", but when I update the MyPOIs, I get the same error message.
Feels like either the update is somehow not enabled in my unit or because there is no internal memory (HDD or SSD) in my Discover Media it cannot update. My unit has the map SD card and reads it from there.
The Discover Media model doesnt come with any memory (hdd or ssd) so all updates are performed via USB or SD slot. I think it is just a matter of finding the right data structure for your units model/version. Maybe try posting your model hardware/software version details and maybe someone with the same combination could assist. If you have the 0821 version map installed then stay with it for now.

      • Hello,

First time poster here. I wish I had read this thread before attempting to update my V1 card through DiscoverCare and I wish Volkswagen made an effort to inform customers this wouldn't work. I'm now left with the original card not being recognised as valid. I did back-up before updating through DiscoverCare, so have the market (maps) folder content saved. However, I don't have the DBInfo .txt file nor the .MD5 file. Any chance a V1 owner out there could share a copy of this with me, so that I could attempt to restore this card before trying to get the local dealer involved? For a 2014 TSI Highline Golf with a Discover Media unit for what it's worth.

        Thanks,

            Thanks,
Hi Colton, I had the same issue, DiscoverCare update stopped with an error message during the sw update of my original VW maps SD card. What I did is I have downloaded the latest map pack from VW website for my car and for my infotainment unit, unzipped and copied onto the original VW SD card. It worked for me.

Thanks, but I've gone down that route to no avail. From reading back through this thread it appears the V1 cards can't be updated unless MapCare is enabled by the dealer? Really just hoping to revert the card back to it's existing state.

              • Updates are good for 3 years.
Then you need to buy a new sdcard that has a new license in a hidden encrypted partition.
You can get one from VW spares.
OR you can buy an EU maps sdcard for a lot less, then delete the contents and copy over the row2 maps.
Boom. 3 years of additonal map updates.
The important part is it's a new sdcard that has a new license for updates

I sat in a car with a laptop for an hour. Tried every combination and didn't work. I gave up now, no POIs for me.

Uploading Speed Camera / POIs - Tail of Woe - VW Pulled the Update Site Again | SEATCupra.net Forums
I followed the link, downloaded the POInspector software, read the manual, imported the speed camera POIs, copied the data onto an SD card and finally my Discover Media unit could see the POIs! Finally!!

                      • Here is my file including all the cameras in Australia (fixed, red light, point to point, mobile, etc) altogether 1912 map points. Created by POInspector software and POIs downloaded from poidb.com. Also added the POIs for Mcdonalds.

If you are struggling to import POIs to your Discover Media unit, try this. Download the zip file, unzip it and copy the PersonalPOI directory and the metainfo2.txt file onto your SD card then import it.

Thanks for the file, BUT I'm unsure of the benefit of having any mobile cameras included. What am I misunderstanding ?

Good work, thanks for sharing, I'll play around with POInspector when I get a chance, but the import file worked fine on my 2018 Golf Comfortline with 0821 MRM2 2017/18.

I had the same question when I saw the name, but then I read the description on poidb.com:

Mobile speed cameras are now being used in several states to reduce speeding on the roads. These cameras are set up in different locations that vary each day. This group of POIs gives locations where they are most frequently set up.

So at the end I decided that I want to know the frequent locations for mobile speed cameras. I know two locations nearby where I live, where the police stops couple of times per month. Better safe than sorry and it is only a couple of spots, 23 I think for whole NSW where I don't mind having an extra beep and an icon on the map.

                              • Need Help Please

                                Hi All,

I have been following this thread closely, however hoping someone can help. ive got a mk 7 Wolfsburg Hatch and it seems i am running the latest maps. I had this done while having some work done on replacing my mirrors at the same time.
                                My System Information is showing:

                                Device Part Number: 3Q0035846
                                Hardware: 820
                                Software: 0627
                                Nav Database: 5NA919866C
                                1010
                                MRM2 2018/19

The problem i now face though is i seem to have lost my traffic reports, which i enabled using OBD Eleven. When presing the traffic report button on the head unit "TMC" is now crossed out. Since having the new map update i checked to make sure the Traffic Report settings were correct in both OBDEleven and on the Discover Media Nav unit and am stumped as to why the reports arent showing anymore. I have read in a previous thread that the Map update P68 works fine with Traffic Reports. I have even downloaded the P68 map udpate (approx 24GB) however my understanding is map updates for my unit can only be done via the supplied SD card from factory, which only holds 8GB of data.

Hoping someone can please help with my dilemma. Would love to have TMC working again and unfortunately i dont have a backup of my previous maps stored anywhere. Cheers
