Maps and POIs for Discover Media

So I just had my 15,000 service on MY15 GTI Performance. I asked the dealer to check for any Firmware or Navigation Software updates - I know that this $150 service is complimentary as part of my service. I was told that there was a navigation update as per technical bulletin and this was uploaded onto my MIB1 system.

When I checked it myself I found that I had - 5G0919866AM0034 ROW 2016 - which I loaded onto my MIB1 last year, just after I purchased the car. It doesn't look like the dealer has upload the latest version of Maps as they claimed to have done!

Can someone please advise the part number of the latest version that I should have? I think I need to have a chat to the dealer... By the way this is an MIB1 with a V3 card.

I guess I should answer my own questions here...

Well, I downloaded what I thought were the correct Navigation.com May 2016 map update: 0635_V05_1911c.xROW2.7z
and soon found out there was no Aust/NZ maps on it.

What I should have downloaded was P38_N60S3MIBS2_ROW_NT.7z - a small 345MB file that only had Australia and NZ. But when I clicked on the link that was posted back in this thread in May 2016 it took back me to the November 2015 update in Navigation.com, which I already have - 5GO919866AM0034 ROW 2016.

It appears that the latest May 2016 update - 5GO919866AM0038 ROW 2016/17 has been deleted from Navigation.com.
I left a message with the dealer but haven't heard back - but I guess according to their information I already had the latest maps installed....

Back to the drawing board...

Just purchased a my15 R, noticed the Nav maps were ROW 2014. So I followed instructions from this thread and perfect, I now have ROW 2016. I started with v2 SD card. It took about 3.5 hours to down load and 2 hours to transfer to the SD card. Thanks everyone, I was going to VW for this.

1. Go to GPS Navigation System | HERE | Navigation.com
2. Change your location to Australia - English
3. Follow the left hand model picker to your Golf year model
4. Click the download link.

Map Upgrade

I have one of the early Mk VII TDI Highlines and took the VW offer of a free map upgrade. My car has been with the dealer since Tuesday morning (this is the 4 time it's been back) and to date, the map upgrade process has been an abysmal failure.
Since the new maps were loaded the head unit and MFD shuts down within 5 minutes of starting the car each morning. VW have suggested reloading all the software, reloading maps, changing the SD card and finally suggested reloading the old maps.
Anyone else having this issue or am I just the lucky one?

Similar problem happened on my 2016 Golf R. There was a service bulletin from USA about the version of software on the unit. It required a new head unit as old unit would not take the 3 updates the dealer tried to do. Look up my old posts as I discussed it.

If anyone decides to format the SD card like I did (just to clear up the file system table I thought), make sure you select the 2048 byte allocation unit. Otherwise you'll be short of diskspace (on the 8GB card at least for me). Many small files take up more room.

Nop. ROW file is still 5+ GBs and has South Africa, Asia and all the other countries VW lobs into he ROW bucket.

For everyone's benefit. I've downloaded the 5GB file, stripped out all the useless stuff for Australia and NZ, and repackaged it. It's now a 361mb download from Google Drive, should be really quick.

EDIT: Making it clear this is for MIB1 only.

Also, if it doesn't work, try the following steps (thanks Herbie_059):

"Initially, when I first inserted the SD card back into the car it sat there for ages "loading navigation ". I had to go through through the menu and select "remove SDx card safely " then re-inserted again and everything worked fine!"

Details of repackaging files:

1. Downloaded full 5GB of map data.
2. Removed all market folders except AUS. This folder contains the map and voice data for Australia and New Zealand.
3. Repacked folders into RAR archive.
