Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I can't find the post but I think I read somewhere that someone removed maps except Australia and it worked.

      • Just looking at the size of the maps from the original V3 (May 2015) I got with the car and this was only 5.48 GB. Part number 3G0 919 866 K.
        V4 (Nov 15) 5.83 GB
        V5 (May 16) 6.04 GB
        V6 (Nov 17) 6.88 GB and now
        V7 (May 17) 7.17 GB

Looks like V8 (Nov 17) will not fit on the current size SD card (7.45 GB). Unless we have the option with the new update in November to only download Australian/New Zealand maps VW may have over the barrel with purchasing a new SD card.

Of note is the Western European maps are 12.6 GB on SD Card 3G0 919 866 BC.

So question to the brain trust - What/why is the original SD card so special? Is there some hidden data on the card to work with the MIB2? Is it possible to use another "approved" SD card?
Have a go asking these questions to your local dealer and try to capture it on video

        • You need to use the original SD card. Your wasting your money getting a new card as it won't be recognised by the unit.

Use Windows for this process .... Mac OSX never works for me and of course you need a card reader.

Download the maps & extract them into a folder on your Windows desktop using the recommended archiving application.

Once that is done, go into say the India folder & remove just one file (make it a large one) & that will save the space you need. DO NOT delete the whole India folder or it will affect the display of your route marker signs when you use the map i.e. you will see the 'green sign but it will not contain the route number e.g. M1 or A32, etc.

Quick format the SD card as FAT32.

Copy the contents of from the folder on your Windows desktop straight onto the SD card.

Eject the card & that is it. Well that's what works for me anyway.

          • Finally, I got it working. I formatted the entire factory SD card using disk utility.

And updated the Volkswagen discovware version 1.4. It works.

It seems that manually copy and paste doesn't work for mac users. Please try to use it via the Discovware.

If you already downloaded the latest map. Just simple simply move to the discovware data folder.

            • Also, if you format, choose the smallest cluster size...

              • I use DiscoverCare to update my maps. DiscoverCare < Innovation & Technology < Volkswagen International

Maps you want to select is "Multi Region Map 2".

Pretty straight forward. Am I missing something as to the all the fuss about getting dealers to update etc?

                (Downloading new version now too)

                • Hi

                  just wanted to clarify.....
i'm on the v1 & have downloaded the MIB1 firmware- however this is just 347MB download. after popping it on the sd card, it gives me - "navigation data in the infotainment systems is not valid" message. Could you confirm if i need other countries too?

i.e.; i download the 25 files & then overwrite the aus folder with this download? is this the procedure?
                  I'm on an 5G0919866A 0022 ROW 2013

regrets on sounding like a noob.

After trying a new SD card before reading this thread, and using the OSX Discoverware app failing without actually specifying why (probably space again), this was the general process that worked for me. I only have an SD card reader on my Macbook though, so I had to remove the files on a windows desktop and then just copy over the network on to the empty VW card.

Got there in the end though

                        • Is it me, or have navigation.com now removed the downloads from their website? I get to this page, and it says to visit your VW dealer, you get it free now with every service...

Yeah, maybe. I've had free maps on my Tig and Golf at both of their last services, so Pathans VW has seen the light at last (on this topic at least).
