Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i did look at some over the weekend at an auto store that we just happened to be driving past and they were all pretty horrible ... which is why i asked the question

when i initially made that post i didn't think my steering wheel was leather (i have the baseline 90TSI) ... it certainly doesnt look or feel like the leather steering wheels that i remember ... but after doing a bit of googling i found this > VW Golf MK7 Leather Multifunction Cruise Control Steering Wheel 5G0 419 091 DJ | eBay > which is basically what mine looks like (except its not missing bits and is actually attached to my car ) ... so i guess that mine might be "leather"

However, it's NOT the nice quality leather steering wheel cover that i have locked in my mind .. so i guess that i will be off to the auto trimmer after xmas to get a nice cover and a couple of other things sorted

    and another accessories question ..

i spent some time last night sorting out my am/fm preset radio stations and getting the station logos into the radio (ended up "making my own" that were much clearer and easier to quickly read than the actual station logos - some of which i found too "detailed and fussy" to read at a glance)

but the thing that i noticed most about the car while doing that at night is that the interior lighting in both the boot and the car is pretty dim ... can anyone tell me, to "upgrade" the interior lights > is it as simple as taking the old bulbs out and installing these > Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Premium LED Interior Lighting Package 2015, 2014

has anyone used these and can confirm that they are brighter than the OEM originals and that they will work (and not throw up error messages on the screen thingy) ...

otherwise, any other light kits that i could look at?
Most of the lights are easy enough to swap but the boot is tricky as it is a separate piece of trim that needs removing and the glovebox one needs dismantling of the small case it is in . But nothing too difficult really.

Getting a kit will be a good way to get the right colour and size for them all (i accidentally ordered blue ones for the glovebox the first time)

Is that just for the control arms or other bits too? With the Mk6 you could buy the control arms for $500 ish and then there was another bit which was optional that was another $300 or so.

Yep that one looks to be leather - should be easy enough to spot with the stitching on the inside of the wheel. The leather in my Mk6 is lovely, wonder why the Mk7 would be any different.

As for interior lighting, have a look at Bold Sport. They have a good range of high quality LED's for VW's and they work well (i have some).

The guy I spoke to didn't mention any other bits (ball joints). So I guess not included.

Let's wait and see till they are released and see what's going on then.

Lucas, haven't studied a base wheel close enough but I'd believe it; while Mk7 brings the game forward in many aspects I'm guessing VW needed to cut a few corners to keep costs in check.

I'd definitely take my Mk6 GTI/R wheel over the Mk7, both in design and looks and in the feel/leather finish.

            • The Mk7 Golfs get the same wheel in base, Comfortline and Highline. The R-line gets a different wheel. I rather like the leather on mine - it's miles ahead of any other wheel found on a $21000 car - and after 17 months it appears that it won't suffer the annoying trait that some other leather wheels do of going shiny.

                    • Its a P3 gauge. Quite a useful little tool to monitor your car. Reads straight off the ECU and shows boost pressure, air inake temp, outside temp, revs, engine timing, you can read any trouble codes that come up and clear them and a couple of other things off the top of my head. Also has a nice 0-100km/h timer that i use a bit with my R

                      • Hey folks ... i know its pretty basic ... but my Golf spends a lot of its day in the sun ... i need to buy one of those silver sun shade things that ppl stick on the interior front window.....

has anyone found a brand that fits the golf mk7 window really well...

the one i bought initially is not deep enough (the golf windscreen seems very deep) ... the second one that i bought is a bit too deep and too long ... anyone found a size brands that fits perfectly?

                        cheers

There is a guy in Tasmania, from memory, that makes them completely custom for each type of car. I lost his details but hopefully that sparks someone else that may know who I am talking about.

Edit: found him, Model-specific sunshades for windscreens of cars, 4WDs and campers

                            • After market running lights.

Just traded my Mk6 GTI on a new Mk7 GTI. The 6 had the xenon lights with LED day running lights which really looked the business. However, the newie is only fitted with the standard lights set up and just the plain old yellow daytime running lights.

Have seen some after market LED set ups on-line an was wondering if anyone has any recommendations or options please. Ta muchly.

                              • What is everyone's opinion on these tips?

What is the cost of the Yeti tips? Do you just order them through Skoda?

                                What would anyone recommend?
