  • There were plenty of cars in the initial batch with a sunroof but only one with Xenons that I've seen so far (thread here)

My car is standard manual spec plus xenons and I couldn't get one through my dealer so I'm in the queue too. I also ordered on 4 October so we'll see how we go.

    • I went to VW at Mascot and took a no spec manual for a spin. The engine ,drive, mechanics of the car are fantastic. The extra torque is very noticeable and has a very smooth delivery once the turbo had spooled.

The car is a nice leap forward over the mk6 in the above. I do find though that the interior is a step back, specially the dash and touchscreen unit that now is standard but not available for upgrade to a larger, higher resolution screen. When you consider that the MK5/6 has the RNS510 with a bigger screen and higher resolution you wonder why this isn't a option any more. Also the dashboard itself, the numbering on the speedo is smaller and less bright.

I know these a small things but for me it's a making the car less user friendly as I don't have fantastic eyesight. Also not a fan of the seat headrest no longer looking like a 1 piece seat.

Other than that it's a great car that will appeal to the masses with so much standard kit. The hill assist was a highlight for me, almost took all the negatives out of driving a manual.

After the test drive I spoke with the sales rep Nicola, very nice girl. At the time if you were happy to take a car with no options and in manual, I could of driven away that day. ( they had a few in stock )

They also were prepared to negotiate on price. Tornado red, manual drive away for 44k.

I don't think they are moving as well as VW thought they would.

For now I'll wait though to see if they might offer down the track an upgraded media unit. My R32 still sounds the tits and makes me smile

      • Tiff Needel's review of the GTI was on Fifth Gear this week. He was mostly upset at being unable to fully turn off ESC and drift the car like the Mk5 GTI and other current bare-bones hot hatches. Possibly missing the point of the (current) GTI but he didn't appear too impressed, which is quite a departure from what Jeremy Clarkson thought of it.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

            Negatives?
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

                • Traded really cool GTD for a red Mk 7 GTI DSG yesterday, which I'll have in 3 weeks. p----d off that no GTD coming here, so thought I'd give a GTI a go.
Drove a 110 tdi highline and it did nothing for me. GTI was impressive in so many ways , felt more planted and went better than mk 6 GTD, and that's really saying something. Instant fuel readout was not so flash, but I'm hoping that it doesn't use crazy amounts of the precious 98 stuff.
Will post again after I've done a few k's.

Yeah but common its nearly 2014, you can buy jetpacks in the USA, wouldn't it be nice if you could see what is currently in stock and with what options on the web

Mind you VW have one of the better websites, but still I reckon they would sell a lot more cars if you'd see them disappearing in front of you as they get bought up by other customers.

Not to mention if you could see what is on its way and ETA, and if you could put a deposit down over the web.

The thing is, in VW land, dealers don't share as much as other brands. I'm a fleet manager and picking up the right car when it comes to VW's is all about ringing around until you find something that the customer would be happy with.

Access or viewing of business inventory or company stock lists is not usually something that is privy to the general public - whatever your line of business may be.

I'm sure there isn't anything to prevent a multinational company and their subsidiaries (such as Volkswagen) from disseminating such information on the world wide web for the general public to peruse at their leisure... but as it stands, I don't see it happening any time soon.

Again, if you contact a Volkswagen dealer, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help you in finding, and getting into, the car you want.

It'd be somewhat intriguing to look at on a lazy Saturday afternoon (or on a slow workday) on one's iPad, but given that the median purchase price of a passenger vehicle is around $30 000, buying a car is still considered a significant expense to many people, so I can't say that would compel them either way.

                          • I'm starting to see quite a few on Sydney roads now. There was a white one heading south on the F3/M1 yesterday afternoon that I couldn't keep up with, a red one heading north on the Pacific Highway at Turramurra shortly afterwards and at about 3pm when I was back in Cammeray there was a different white one parked on Miller St.

This was the only one I got a close look at. It had DSG, leather, driver assist and bi-xenons. Looked phenomenal.

                            Anyone on here?
