    Pics will be forthcoming.

Can understand the wait on tuning at this point. The GTI engine is in a fairly unstressed state and the Mk6 shows the stock internals can handle a stage 1 or 2 tune with no major worries. It is a good idea to do the research though and be comfortable with who tunes it and how they will back it up, and their track record.

A DSG tune is an option as well, although given the cost I'd suggest the engine tune is of more interest unless the shift points are REALLY annoying you. If do a lot of 'manual' driving or are reasonably ok with how D behaves then I wouldn't make it a priority.

I was actually going to query whether people had noticed differences between the Mk6 and Mk7 in that regard. I know I had a particularly temperamental DSG last time (which included a mechatronics replacement that did nothing to improve its performance) but so far the Mk7 is behaving much better - yes in D it still changes up too quickly at times, but it isn't always finding sixth around town, and it's actually open to the idea of first when crawling into a car park or garage. Time will tell how it holds up.

    • At the dealer today and was advised that the highline and GTI will not have Xenon's as an option any more. Only the GTI PP and Golf R will be able to have xenon's.

Correct - the full changes are covered here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...olf-96390.html

Really just impacts a GTI buyer who chose a non PP for the manual but still wants a red line running through their headlight.

They should either fit the xenons as standard on the GTI or reduce the option cost as paying $2k for a red line is mildly outrageous. I'd probably prefer to see it as standard rather than say a $1k option but I know VWA prefer the cheaper headline price.

          • I didn't option them for the red line and everyone complaining about how crap the halogens are has given me added comfort that it was the right call!

            • Just stirring.

The halogens are crap, but the trouble is I would rarely drive anywhere where the xenons would be of use, maybe 0.1% of my travel and therefore the price just makes me cry especially when options have no resale.

If I did significant night driving out of town then the investment would be more worthwhile.

It just so happened that my first drive of any distance involved the freeway here at night, but with traffic around, thus preventing use of high beams - in that situation the xenons would have been a welcome addition. If I'm up that way again at night I'll just take the Mazda..

              • I actually love the red lIne in the headlight cover!
Saw a mk6 driving past at the shops when I was getting to my car and side by side I like the mk7 design better..
I am falling more and more in love with the shape on the mk7, love the back and wheels and the red line grill looks mean as!

They need a better colour for the grill on the R, silver doesn't look mean enough IMHO.

                  • So I could have one of the last GTI's with sunroof and xenons ?

                    • Quite possibly - although MY15 commences from week 22, so I'd hazard a guess there's another week and a half of MY14 production going through, so deliveries into Australia of this stock could still be filtering through until August.

Anyone else confirming this? I am looking to move on from my Polo GTI after only a year(which had an engine replacement for oil issues) and don't want to have to go through all of that again.

I took one for a second test drive and just as I was going out, a new GTI owner came in to get theirs topped up after 1000kms. While I want a gti, I couldn't deal with oil issues again and my brain is thinking wait and see how an R-Line is. I just don't want to risk it like I did with the polo.

The EA888 has been a reliable unit for a long time, ditto the wet DSG6 (or manual if you desire, unlike current Polo GTI).

If you want something that drives like the GTI and can spring for it, do so, if you're fine with the 103TSI or 110TDI performance then an R-Line version of these would be a smart looking buy. Some neat looking examples in the wheel thread with a bit of work too.

                            • Octavia RS gets the same engine combo too - EA888 with wet DSG6 - which can come close to the cost of a R-line Golf or about 5K cheaper than a GTI.

Shame you can't get the R-line with Xenons any more too :\
