I also put 98 RON in though the fuel flap indicates 95 RON min. Have you put in 95 RON? If so, is there much difference in performance?

I would have thought you'd need a fairly well tuned 'butt dyno' to notice a difference.

I also believe (read it in a Motor ages ago) that 98RON fuel runs that bit more efficiently and so the real price difference is about half the actual. I always used 98 in my old GTI though, and intend to do so in the new one.

There is nothing to suggest anything wrong with the GTI. Much of the problems are with the 118TSI engine and the 7speed DSG (both of which are not present in the GTI).

^ what Ziggy said. I'm 2 years into GTI DSG ownership and the car has been faultless. The 6 spd DSG used in the GTI and GTD (also my Passat Alltrack TDI DSG) is rock solid and beautiful to use compared to a traditional auto.

I second that, 4 years into mine.
The DSG recall is only for the 7 speed versions, the GTI has 6 speed version

I was playing with one today which had a "Volume Adjustment" slider under Volume Settings under Audio.. could this be it or is that something else?

On the one hand it's so much car compared to the GTI - it has bixenons standard as well as the better Nav

My first thought is - if I had a family it'd be a no brainer.

But my second thought is - if I was buying a family wagon, would I need and feel like using 162kw/350Nm? Probably not. What's the point? Which brings you back to a less powerful model.

It's a hard one to reconcile

I'm not a family man, but I really like the skoda since you can put anything in it, I guess if you're a fan of Ikea you'll love the RS. Also I really appreciate the extra equipment that you just can't get on the Golf (Discover Pro, KESSY, Premium Sound). I'm more partial to the design too, I find the liftback hatch looks great with the black pack and angular lines.

I'd be happy to use the power of the VRS even if acquired as a family wagon.

Same way I'd enjoy the power of the AMG C63 507 wagon if my budget allowed.

I'm already committed on the GTI and we have a bigger car as the family drive, but would definitely consider this option next time around.

...aaaand it becomes tempting to cancel my order for the wagon; the RS carries only a small price premium over the 103TSI highline and includes the guts of a GTI and all the options I could ever want!

I do wonder how nice the interior is vs. the Golf, though...

Looks pretty good to me; I don't know how the material quality compares to Golf as I haven't sat in one of the new Octavias yet, but I don't think there were any issues on the previous model.

Popped in to finalise my PP, looked at the floor car that just arrived, the rear lights are indeed different! And the number plate lights are LED.
