Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

AJD: Had an "interesting discussion" (to use your words) with VWA about the voice control function (a couple of day's ago). Guess what? You were entirley correct about the additional charge. You must be some kind of clairvoyant! Can you tell me the tatslotto numbers for next week - please? PS: write to my private email, that way I dont have to share with the rest of the forum readers haha.
VWA are now trying to back away from their brochure description of what comes standard in the Highline series. They now are saying that the fix for the function only comes in an accessory upgrade to the Discover Media Unit (I think this is the bit that has the screen). If I want to get the function, I have to buy the accessary option. They can't tell me the price yet, but knowing how VW charge for their accessories (like a wounded bull!), I bet that it won't be cheap. It's a disturbing development. I'll have to see what my consumer rights are. I was hoping to avoid this kind of battle, but then life is never simple when it comes to disputes about cars and VWA have a long history of denying that their car have any faults (i.e remember the DSG debacle with the fatality on the eastern freeway).
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

        • Has anyone noticed or experienced loose rear door handle covers ? (the rear triangle bit that covers the non-moving part of the door handle)

Mine both are loose - and the Mrs pulled the door handle with a slight upward yank and it popped off (the triangle bit). Upon closer inspection both sides can easily be removed...there looks to be clips internal on the door side surface but no actual lip or grip internal to this plastic bit. Front parts are firmly held.

          • I tried sports shift in my 90tsi the other day and got the funny rattle noise once , I then found a decent straight stretch and went from stand still with no noise but constant acceleration and then slowing down no noise was present ill keep an eye ( ear ) on it when ever I feel the need for sports mode

Alas my psychic skills only extend to the levels VWA will sink in an endeavour to avoid acknowledging they f%^Ked up. I think this is worthy of a direct application to the media once the upgrade becomes available to resolve on behalf of Highline purchasers. VWA will naff about for years and given their experience with the various Fair Trading Depts they have evidenced they are more than happy to spend money on denying a problem rather than fixing it. Make sure you keep any brochures you may have as evidence of their misleading advertising.

              • I wonder if it is like the rns + Bluetooth retrofit to the mk6 where you need to bridge the microphone output across from rns to Bluetooth, rather than straight Mic to Bluetooth (another small cable run I think to retro fit).

All the brochures have a disclaimer that says "subject to change without notice" so your fighting a losing battle. VW aren't the first to have incorrect brochures.

The vehicle fatality on the Eastern Freeway was in a manual Golf.

Just hypothesising for a moment. There must be a reason why WVA did not put iPod connectivity in its Golf 7s (acknowledging blue tooth connectivity). Combining this with the lack of voice control could mean that the 'accessory' may offer Siri Eyes free. There is a lot in the press regarding apple and car manufacturers, VW included, that this could be a possibility. The other possibility is 'Mirrorlink' which allows certain car approved apps on a smartphone to be displayed and run from your car entertainment system.

Regardless I can not see VW just offering an accessory just for voice control alone.

                        • I got my car serviced just last week for the first time and got the waste gate clip installed, now the EPC light comes on when I start the car. Argh.

The rear bumper (from the car behind who was following too closely) and then the front bumper (from your car hitting the car in front caused by the impact and momentum from the car behind), followed by a mental breakdown from having your brand new Golf in an accident.

Bennjamin: the two rear door handle covers on my Golf are quite firm. Tried to get them off (not too hard) but they wouldn't budge!
