Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thank you for your e-mail. We do apologise for the delay in response.

In regards to the voice control in your vehicle, it is not able to be connected.

It was originally advertised before the release of the car, however these brochures should have been pulled off the shelves in our dealers.

It has instructions in your user manual, this is because it is a generic manual also for our European models.

The Volkswagen factory did not include the function in our models that were ordered for our market.

We currently are developing a way to install it as an accessory function with our cars, however there is a little way to go before it is available in the market.

    We do apologise for this.

    Kindest Regards
Jdbrown: What was your response to the email? Are you going to accept what VW Aust is saying? My view is that I bought my Highline based on the material that VW released at the time. It said that the car that I bought had vocxie control and I expected that Voice conrol would be delivered. It's not a big issue, but I think that the principle is important.
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Actually not so silly.... sorry about that. I just kept my eye on my tacho while taking it pretty easy driving home from work yesterday (5km run so car is pretty much cold the entire journey), and the only time I went over 3K was to get the car back up to speed when a car in front of me turned off in a side street (but my drive has no hills, if it had hills, revving is better than straining in higher gears to get the car up to speed up a hill).

        • I suspect those brochures are still being used and they do clearly state voice control for navigation and radio functions. How many months can they use the excuse of oversight to get away with false advertising.
My car had a build date of December 2012, the brochure I have says it is correct as at March 2013 and was emailed to me by the dealer in June 2013. Surely 6 months was more than sufficient for VWA to get their act together and resolve this issue.

AJD: Very true. As I said in a previous post, my advice from VW Australia is that VW Germany have just recently released a fix for the Voice Control function for the Golf Highline series.
However, VW Aust. will not release it to the dealers until they test the fix. I have no idea what value VW Australia adds to the process through this additioanl testing program (I would have thought that all the necessary tests would have been conducted by VW Germany).
But we must all wait until the Australian protocols have been completed. Go figure (Das Clunk)!

They may want to test it with an Aussie accent - but I told VW Aust that as my wife was born in England she would have no problem speaking British accented english. At this stage it is more the principle than then functionality for me.

              • Re reading the response from VWA, I suspect they will be looking to apply a charge for the function "We currently are developing a way to install it as an accessory function with our cars, however there is a little way to go before it is available in the market" This may result in some interesting discussions.

                • Just out of curiousity - Has anyone upgraded from Discover Media to Discover Media Pro or has done some research on whether this is possible?

                  • Apparently half the system sits in the glovebox with wiring running around to the head unit so it wouldn't be simple. I wouldn't mind a bigger higher-res screen alone though at some point (harddrive less important)

                    • Plus the ability to play dvd video's. That is available in the rns510. The infotainment system available on the new golf is a step backwards.

had a look at others observations regarding waste gate rattle, not similar but not sure.

                              • go to 3:45, is this normal? i have the same sound with my 103tsi.
                                nothing else so far.

                                EDIT: and this one.

for me it rattles when idle...comparing to my passat, at least louder.
