Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi Don!

    Nice to see you again!!

Want to share a simple VCDS tweak that makes the interior lights go on/off gradually:

    1. From the Select Control Module screen, choose 09-Central Electronics
    2. Choose Security Access-16, input 31347
    3. Find 116598 - interior lighting-KL58 Einschalten mit Rampe (Please find the similar content, I'm not good at spelling)
    4. Change adaptation from Not Active to Active and click Do it!

    Under some circumstances,
in Mk7 you have to go to central electronic module -> adaptations and change the adaptation to LED lights, because the car is sending more resistance to the illumination bulbs as it thinks that they are halogen:
    09-Central Electronics -> Adaptation -> search "Leuchte30FR LC72 - Lasttyp 30" -> new value : 36LED

Then you can find when you turn on/off your lights, the interior illuminaion goes on/off gruadually.
(Maybe someone had posted before, but I cannot find any related info within the forum.)

    Enjoy!

      • Hi Don!

        Nice to see you!! [emoji4]

Recently one of my friends had a problem with the fuel indicator on the instrument cluster:

The indicators goes red too soon(still plenty of fuel in the trunk)

Is there any method that I can 're-calibrate' the fuel indicator?

Looooook forward for your reply, thanks!

        • @fashionci: It really does depend on the version of module @hex17 and the tank sensor arrangement on the car .

The traditional way of tank calibration on MQB platform cars (meaning moving the tank needle UP/DOWN) is via the adaptation channels with the parent name Offset for tank calibration values.

Within this parent group there are 4 x Offset sensors (numbered 1 to 4). However, depending on how your car is equipped, the un-used sensors will have a factory value of 12.7L and the default value for used sensor(s) will be -12.8L. Note: this is an offset value; it's not an actual tank value.

Curiously, for some unknown reason - VCDS creates an additional channel IDE02818-IDE02689-Offset for tank calibration values-Complete tank calibration which also has the default value -12.8L. This channel is missing in OBD11 - I have no idea why!!

Anyhow - the process for moving the tank needle is like this:
          1. Go to the hex17 module which is called Dashboard in OBD11, or Instrument in VCDS
          2. Go to security access and enter the magic number 20103 if you have an early module, or enter 47115 if the later module is installed
          3. Go to adaptation, enter "tank" into search box and select Offset for tank calibration values
          4. Select the Offset sensor that has a value -12.8 (usually Offset sensor 1)
          5. Adjust as desired- like this:
            1. Adjustment range is -12.8 to +8.
            2. Reducing (more negative) value moves the needle down (each -1 moves needle about 3mm to the left).
            3. increasing (less negative) value moves the needle up (each +1 moves needle about 3mm to the right)

If the car has more than one Tank sensor (like some Golf R models), repeat above for each active sensor, or try the VCDS channel for the "Complete tank calibration".

              • Warning to anyone using VCDS recently.

                1. Avoid VCDS 22.3.1 if you can. I got error message when trying the security access code for adaptation: "Controller refused key".
Also "Auto Scan" failed & said "gateway does not support".

I downgraded firmware to 21.9 and auto-scan + adaptations security code worked again

                2. Don't use VCDS on Virtualbox Windows. This also had problems connecting to the car.

                • @fatjoez: More information - please.

I can't find any discussion about VCDS 22.3.1 problems on the Ross-Tech forum.

What flavor Ross-Tech product is this (HEX-NET, HEX+CAN etc)? Maybe there was a need to update the device firmware (in the dongle) as part of the VCDS software update. Was this done?

                        • @suavebygtr: Hola (that's the only Spanish that I know )

I don't judge (this is not a safety matter - so it's entirely your business why you want to illuminate the sky) - the answer to your question lies in "Leuchte-programming"! But before I tell you "how" - this is "why":

Forgive me if you already know this stuff, but on MQB based platform cars like those that are the subject of this thread (and like your car) - the 35 x exterior lights are operated by a thing that I call a Leuchte-set.

A Leuchte-set is a group of 19 x adaptation channels in the module @ address hex09 (which VCDS calls "BCM" and OBD11 calls "central electrics") that start with the term "Leuchte". Each individual exterior lamp has its own Leuchte-set and each Leuchte-set controls a single pin on the hex09 module.

For the purpose of your question, each Leuchte-set has a channel called "Lichtansteuerung HD". "HD" is German short-hand for "HeckDeckel". In English, Lichtansteuerung HeckDeckel means "light control rear hatch". This channel can have one of only 2 x values - being either always, or only_if_closed. I assume that you can guess how the state of the boot lid affects the light illumination based on these values (most Leuchte-sets for the lamps on the boot-lid have the factory value "only_if_closed")

So - that's the answer to your question - simply change the setting to "always" on the channel above for each lamp that you want illuminated when the boot-lid is open.

Now, as for identifying the name of the Leuchte-set, I'm guessing how the Leuchte-sets are allocated to lamps on your EU model Golf (Aussie Golf mk7s are RoW model). Nevertheless, I suggest that you try these:
                          • Leuchte23SL HLC10 - Parking light, rear left inside (rear lights)
                          • Leuchte24SL HRA65 - Parking light, rear right inside (rear lights)
                          • Leuchte26NSL LA72 - Fog Light, rear left inside (rear lights)
                          • Leuchte28RFL LC11 - Reversing light, rear left inside (rear lights)
                          • Leuchte29RFL RA64 - Reversing light, rear right inside (rear lights)

                          Don

I'm Hoping Don can provide a solution for my rear inner lights to Work as Brake Lights.
Iv tried a few coding combos but not able to code the inner hatch lights to work as brake lights.
They currently work as park lights only. ANything I do just meses up the current setup I have already with outer lights.

                              • @ArdiL:Hi.

I suspect that I'm not understanding your question (entirely my fault - English is my second language ). Those changes in your table are correct for illuminating the 2 x "inner" Parking Lights - except I would suggest
                                • Lasttyp > 34 - LED Bremsleuchten

hmm..... maybe my confusion is about Leuchte27NSL RC6? Is this Leuchte-set active on these tail lights? If so, maybe try THIS. I wrote this tweak instruction many years ago - with the wisdom of age, I would probably also suggest the change above to Lasttyp 27.
