Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm wishing I can get the price down further from 62k with more negotiations with the dealer ... Will try 56k if possible :p

As others have said it just ain't going to happen. Offering to deal at 56 is just going to antagonise the dealer or make them believe you aren't a serious buyer.

The dealer doesn't have a large margin to play with in the first place - while the discount on his delivery fee is part of the corp discount that he gets rebated back they will be unwilling to go much lower.

Best bet is to maybe look for some add-ins for 'free' which can range from tint through to accessories which do have a fat margin they can drop.

Thanks for the insight , you are right , might get some extras instead of a ridiculous price , But not sure where I read someone managed to haggle down to 57k for a fully loaded R , but like many said , he might have a good relationship with the dealer .

Will go through few dealers to find out

IIRC it was Hainsey, who picked up a demo R in Brisbane and drove it back to Townsville.

          • There's nothing better than looking back in the past and seeing a clone of my very first car, a used 1976 Golf LS, assembled here in Clayton Victoria. What memories. [emoji25]

I'm in Melbourne , had a read around it seems that the best driveway price some fellow members been getting is aprox 57k ? I work in a gov corporation , and eligible for vw corp(10%) I believe ? Is it far fetch if I ask for 56k with corp discount driveway for fully option golf R ? Sorry if this has been asked many times and thanks in advance for any response .

              Really, 56k...
The demo I bought was listed for 60k drive and I neg down to 58
Car had just over 1500 on it had DAP and leather. They gave me 5 year warranty and I had to work hard to get that deal,
I don't see how you can possible offer less than what I got for a new car with a sunroof, I would be surprised if they don't call the cops and try and get you done in for robbery

Best you could hope for is to get a minor discount and then get a lot of options like rust protect, rim package, warranty or free on roads

Thanks for the detailed reply ! I think I know how much I should put forward for it without getting chased out with a broom

Not too sure about the depreciation for the R , I'm thinking to sell the car after two years after the lease ends , do you guys think I'll have a hard time selling it if I priced it aprox $45k ?

                • All you have to do mate is look at a 2012 R on carsales with similar kms and add a bit seems as it is a superseeded model now, also depends on kms

                    • Which is pretty good compared to an audi of the same era or something else that was 60k in 2012

                      • So, dropped the R in this morning for a ~1600km check of fluids, "pit-stop service" and also because the passenger side rear window makes a burring noise when winding it up/down.

Looks like I am going to be charged $60 for the "pit-stop service"? Is this the case, I was under the impression it was a free service and part of buying a VW?

                        • First service is "complimentary" as stated in the service book that come with the car, they rip the page out completely when they do it

What do you mean by "service" though? Exactly what I am talking about regarding just checking fluids or something more?

                                Right, it's just the once.

The sales speech I was given lead me to believe that it was for the life of the car or at least the warranty period. Time to buy some fluids I guess so it can be done @ home.
