Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I strongly suspect it's a design feature but they won't listen lol.
The MK6 did not drone (if it did I never noticed it). The MK7 does drone - especially under load at low revs. Leave it in sixth at 50-55kph going up a hill you'll see what I mean.
Doesn't matter what driving mode your in, so I don't think it has anything to do with exhaust flaps. I have "soundaktor" volume on 30%, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Just sounds like good old fashioned exhaust drone.
Don't think it's a design feature, but the car wasn't designed for driving "Miss Daisy" so I don't think a "quiet and refined" ride was a key design concept.
Is it bad - No.
It is very easily corrected by selecting a more appropriate gear and then it just sounds good

The drone we talk about by its nature is a low frequency 40 - 50 Hz (1200 -1600rpm) trailing throttle or under load up a hill and is caused by low gas flow through the exhaust - so the idea of the valves is that under those situations, where gas flow is low you reduce the exhaust volume i.e. close the 2 outer pipes, gas flow increases and the drone goes away.
This problem seems to be specific to the detuned cars in Australia, Japan and S Africa as far as I can tell. The valve control is done from the ECU, so have the valve position parameters been altered inadvertently during the detune? If so it may well be that a small adjustment to the engine control program would fix it.
To my knowledge there is only one guy on the UK forums (and he is from Melbourne) who has added a hotdog glass filled resonator with some success as he claims the drone is reduced by about 15 - 20% and interestingly the exhaust volume has increased in the cab.Last edited by Benz; 25-10-2014, 11:05 AM.

Buy a lexus ct200h, no noise no drone no unhappy drivers
It is also like people who want super grippy tyres but with coopeer tyres 80,000km mileage and prius tyres noise level.Mitsubishi Pajero Sport - Super Select 2WD/4WD
Toyota 86 GTS Performance Pack Moon Slate - RWD
MINI Cooper S Clubman - FWD

Back onto the automatic dipping when reversing, I am assuming that you only flick the adjustment knob to "L" and have the car in Reverse with the park brake on to adjust the reversing position.
Beyond that, if you have the mirrors setting enabled to automatic dipping when reversing the adjust knob can be left on the dot setting?
Ok reading the other thread looks like it needs to goto "L".
Found this also;

Love the exhaust note but hate the cabin drone which happens when slowing to an intersection using engine braking.
It is an amazing car in every way with the edge taken of by a stupid bit of programming.

In fact the main reason IMO that the 7R has the exhaust valves installed is to alleviate this drone whilst allowing the exhaust note to be louder and nicer at other speeds.

My rear passenger window motor has died and is due for replacement, both rear doors make a bad squeaking noise from the rubber seal rubbing on the body when opened/close and there is a rattle in the front passenger-side door. Just curious if those are all valid complaints for a near $70k RRP vehicle to make?
I am also a little concerned about fitting a Milltek cat-back exhaust next week sometime as I feel the passenger-side door rattle is caused by the exhaust note at low RPMs and hope that the aftermarket exhaust does not exacerbate the issue and go through the process of taking the exhaust on and off...
