Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can you tell us what they did? I have the same issue. Took it in last week, road tested with one of their crew and they heard the noise. Had it for a few hours and called me to tell me some clips were broken or missing and that some hose was loose and that was causing the noise. They fixed it up and said the noise was gone... drove out of the lot and still have the noise... anyone able to help out?

    • Sorry, I can't find the report they gave me. I know it was 2 separate rattles they located in door.

On another note just lately bit underwhelmed with performance. I've had car 5 months and prob just got used to it, it's fast but bit reserved. Anyone else feeling this way?

I think a tune should fix that. Just waiting for APR tune. Then get that, other plans are dsg tune and intake. Will do one at a time to enjoy each mod.

      • A tune definately fixes that. Trust me
When i take my tuning box off the car feels so boring and slow

I really like it, everyone who has been in my car loves it. Once you set it up properly it works and looks really OEM. I will be able to put up pics on the weekend when i fly home from Perth if you would like.
Also i got obviously the right hand version with the blue/white colour upgrade

              • I installed it myself. I think if you get it preinstalled its adds quite a bit of money. Its easy to do and i just followed a youtube video. Took me approx 15min to install.

                • jonoz, an alternative (although not sure if Mk7 ready yet) is the AutoPolar FIS, which essentially adds an extra screen in your MFD (dash computer screen) and is customisable with what you want to display, plus has a few other neat tricks. I'll let you do your own research on youtube, etc.

There's a thread about it in the Audio... subforums here.

Cheers! No harm in exploring all you're options before making a decision. When I was discussing the price of the exhaust with my partner she took it pretty well but got the last word in being muttering to herself knowing well and good I could hear her, "if he spend's $5,000 on an exhaust for an exhaust I wonder how much he will spend on my engagement ring...?".

To be honest, thinking about it more I don't know how much I would actually sit there looking at a gauge and it would more be a for fun thing to have.

Also, looks like about 90% of the functions can be done using a bluetooth OBD and the Torque app? Please correct me if I am wrong.

                    • Correct, there is an overlap of functionality with the FIS+, Torque Pro, and VCDS. I've got all 3 and enjoy the integration with the car, and the more accurate speedo that I can get on the dash.

                      • Quick question for you R owners...

Are the tyre pressure monitors the in valve variety or is it monitored via the ABS like on some of the earlier golfs?

                        Thanks in anticipation.

Whats the feelings about running the TBE without the tune being ready yet?

                            • Tubby will call tomorrow and ask them what they did.

Sekas or others with Dsg tune, how has drive ability changed? I'm starting to get annoyed at being in 6th at 60-65km/h and don't want to be driving around in manual mode all the time. I find it's a gear or 2 out most of time especially when looking to accelerate. Reading info and reviews I think it fixes this up a fair amount. Also want to get it to increase torque settings, clutch gripping to match tune as guessing APR tune will take torque to well over 500nm.

Also how is the sound of the APR intake? Can't find anything online yet showing it on Golf R?
