Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Any opinions on whether replacing the stock rotors is desirable? If so, are the DBA 42808S rotors worth the extra $88 over the DBA 2808S?

    • hey guys, quick question, looking to put the golf r on the dyno tomorrow at a car meet. just interested in seeing what it is getting ATW.

i have heard murmurs about some companies only dynoing them with the front wheels only, as there is apparently a way to ensure the rear diff does not engage, and as there will only be a rwd/fwd dyno at the event tomorrow could someone give me pointers on to how to go about this?

      cheers.

From memory you remove the fuse for ABS and it also affects the haldex so it won't operate = FWD only.
Might be a good idea to do some google searches though as that was the setup for the Mk6 R.

Yeah mate thought just as much and already googled it but will try again or just go for a drive with the fuse out, chuck the hand brake on and try and drive through it with the front wheels only and just enough to see if the car "squats" In the rear..... But not enough to blow it up hahah

With the 6r did a light come up and then go out when fuse was put back in or?

          • Other option is to get underneath and pull the plug on the Haldex controller. This will cause the car to default to FWD. Either way you'll still be running the tail shaft as this is connected mechanically.

You'll have a fault light on the dash and when you reconnect/reinstall fuse you'll have a fault logged which can be cleared with VCDS.

              • I have done a search and found some other people posting the same experience I am having with their automatic start-stop but just wanting to post it in here to see if any R owners are having the same issue.

During our first 1000kms the first thing we would do is switch the automatic start-stop off when starting the car, now going over the 1400kms mark we have decided that its probably time to take advantage of the possible fuel savings. Problem is now, no matter what the start-stop is constantly saying "Power consumption is high" and does not stop the automatically stop the car.

Anyone else had this happen? Not sure whether to be happy about it or if there is an actual fault it regarding the start-stop system.

                • Have you taken notice of what the aircon is doing, i know if thats basically above the 2nd notch the car will stay running for aircon

The car will not turn off if you have too many things using power and it cannot turn the car off, run these items and then have enough current draw in the battery to start again.

You will notice this when sitting at lights with aircon, sometimes it will cut out because the inside air temp is matched to what you have requested on the aircon setting, when the inside temp raises the car will turn back on and start cooking again

                    • ^ Hainsey & Sekas are on the money, my R's stop/start wouldn't switch 'on' if I had a/c on and handnt travelled for long and the a/c hadn't reached temperature, or if I was at the lights and turned the a/c on then the motor would come on. Must say I like the stop/start function and associated auto hold function, good chance to take your R foot off the pedals and stretch/relax etc

                      • Aircon is off (I like the wind in my beard ), lights are on auto and it has been sunny days.

Phone is connected via bluetooth and I cannot think of anything else that would be consuming power... I am going to check the fluid levels and if anything needs a topup check if I can drop the car in for a pitstop service and see if they are topped up for free. Then also ask about this start-stop behavior and also the rear passenger side window, what sounds like the electric motor is really struggling to wind up/down the window - almost like the pane may not be fitted straight.

Quick question about that tho, since having the APR carbon fibre intake fitted - what are VW generally like with mods? As soon as they see them assume they are the cause if any issues or do they investigate thoroughly to find the actual cause? Just wondering if its actually worthwhile to swap in-and-out the stock/APR one during getting the car inspected/serviced.

                        • I got told with my mods that for general servicing ect they are fine to stay in. As for defects or investigative purposes they told me to return it to stock as they would access the car how it was givin to them as then they dont have to tell VWA that the car has mods(minor issues, major all data gets sent to germany and thats where they can see TD1 flags, not at dealerships i.e turbo failures).
So all in all, 15mins to remove tuning box and cable loom, 15min to take my apr intake out and put the stock one back in. Yer springs can stay there. Not to much effort
