  • All these s3 prices are extremely low compared to the rrp that shows on the price calculator on audi Australia's website, but then again the s3 hatch has been out almost a year longer than the golf r..... Hmmm very interesting

I might go into audi just for ****s and giggles to see what they will price one up for now, when I went in 8 months ago it was around 75k for one, which was well over 15k more than what the golf costs

I got approx. 10%, but I'm very happy with that.

This was even with my partner going through doing her normal tweaking of the bass, treble, etc and pumping up the sub it just didnt really impress all in all.
Agreed on the seats, which is why I didn't get them. Ref the B&O, decent speakers - just like cars - frequently need plenty of time to be run in properly. The Dynaudio in my Mk6 GTI took a good 100 hours of use before they warmed up properly, but the improvement was substantial. Unfortunately, you can't rely on an evaluation of a brand-new system in the showroom when demoing a good car audio system (with the exception of tweeters really).

Well, that's never going to happen. Of course the S3 is specced as standard far higher than the R, so again, we're not comparing apples with apples and expecting comparable pricing is unrealistic. But the R remains excellent value for what it is and what's included (as does the S3 to my mind), and you should be very pleased with your purchase!

I don't think Andrew's $67.5k S3 sedan quote included the S Performance Pack in addition to metallic paint, load through and tint - but if it did, and he turned it down... umm... wow!

Good deals come with research and negotiation; I would never expect to be able to walk in to a dealer unannounced and get a great deal. You need to demonstrate that you know where the sharp end of the pricing is at, and potentially have both alternative quotes from other dealers, and details of others' purchases in order to really get things moving.

      • Adam you're exactly right about research and negotions, I found out lowest prices I've heard of them selling. Told salesman that other dealership willing to sell at that price and that I had contacts at bmw so can get good price there. Told him our price that we would buy at and gave c/card for desposit saying do you want to make sale or not! Worked well, got more than 10% off quoted price!

            • How are people going with their fuel economy on their r, on the drive home it was sitting on 8.5L/100 but around town it has spiked up to about 11-14, depending on how "spirited" I feel like driving

Any news if the MY15 will get the 8" screen as an option?

Does the push start mean keyless?

With that out the way, I was lucky enough to be handed the key(-less)s of a demo Golf R for the weekend.

Having only driven a Golf 7 TDI Highline before this, I was excited to see what the R had to offer.
First impressions were, when in comfort mode, was that it felt very similar to the TDI I drove a couple weeks before. By then I was out of earshot of the dealer, and squeezed the right boot. My goodness gracious me, this thing is fast! I skipped normal mode then and went straight for race mode. I was grinning like an idiot!

You see this car isn't going to be for me. Comparably, my daily driver is a 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero, (Touareg for me at next changeover). This is for my better half, she is going from a 2004 Mazda3.

At this point I couldn't just drive down the freeway home. Who would do that when you're in a Golf R with a twisty option to get home? Damn straight.. I went the twisty way home.

Man oh man! I wish the better half would have my car, then I'd get this for myself!

Long story short, she drove it, fell in love with it, got a bit cheeky with the power and fell in love with it some more.

Needless to say, this weekend we're probably going to sign up if we can get the right price for Lapiz Blue, DSG, Driver Assist and Leather.
The jury is still out as to weather she would like the sunroof. I'd be interested to hear what people with the sunroof think??

Also has anyone had any luck getting the wheels changed for the Pretorias? (If so, an indicative price?) A factory option/swap would be cheaper than getting them from the parts and accessories list...

                          Aaron.

I'm not aware of anyone doing this - the cost is too prohibitive here ($6k+ from some dealers).

Best bet is just go after market with a quality set of rims.

                            • I don't have the R but I find the sunroof in the wagon fantastic. In winter with the roof open and the seats to keep you warm you'll be smiling.
