Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bridgestone Potenza on mine (pretty sure DrK has different tyres)

    • Might be a dumb question but has anyone had their 'Coming Home' lights set to on but the lights don't come/stay on after the engine shuts down? I've got mine set to 15 seconds but the lights goes off immediately after the engine shuts down. Weird.

I assume it's like the mk6, you have to give the indicator stalk a quick pull (think highbeam flash) as you get out. That will initiate the "coming home" for the duration you set in the MFD.

Ahh thanks - I'll have to check that out later. Never owned a Mk6 that explains it

Must be same on the GTI. The light in the garage is on the blink and was wondering why I was getting no joy on that either.

Yes the lights are on auto. It comes on when I use the fob to unlock the door (leaving home) but not when I get out of the car after stopping the engine.

So I've just tried this and it worked. Flashed the high beam (weird that I have to do this everytime?) and open the doors, lights came on for 15 secs. If only there's a way to make sure it comes on everytime the driver door opens after the engine stops that'd be great.

                VCDS mod maybe?

                • My coming home lights work as soon as I open the car door. No need to flash the main beam. I don't remember having to code it to do this. Just set it in the MFD.

I have read that it can be somehow disabled, and Iv read from people on international forums that they have, but no details have emerged. E.g can it be done yourself? Or is it a dealer/service job only? I too would be interested in switching it off.
