Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Livin' the dream Koe, nice pic (btw I didn't choose the sunroof this time, didn't see much "use" in it in my MK6 GTI). Hopefully my lease documents are signed/sealed/ by now and I can pick up my R tomorrow morning!

        • It is bigger but not by much, and in the mk 6 you could open it the whole way by manual over ride. Can't do that in the mk7.
It still is good though and looks great in your Limestone Grey colour!

Best colour by far. Changes depending on the light. Love it!

It's a couple inches longer and wider. It opens to full retraction straight up (still a bigger opening than mk6) because of the new wind deflector design. There was no way I could do 80koh with old mk6 roof fully open without the dreaded wind thump. No issues with roof wide open at 80kph in mk7 - no thump at all

Sorry i have been given a delivery date but its the 30th of November! Also i've been notified that the production date is the 15th of July for the manual... so if its around 3 months to build a car then one month to ship, that would make it November correct?
Hi Joe, if you have been advised that production of manual transmission models for the Australian market will not commence until 15/7, then you have information that I don't have. Cars take approximately 8 weeks on the water to arrive, but won't leave the port of origin until the ship carrying them will have sufficient numbers on board. This means our custom orders can be completed but could sit in a holding yard for several weeks. My estimated delivery date is 11 weeks earlier than yours, which makes no sense, as my confirmed order was placed just one week prior to yours. Either my dealer has the story wrong or yours does. When we are both updated by our dealers with our specific production slots, we will be in a better position to estimate delivery dates.

              • Bridgestone Potenza RE050A vs Pirelli P Zero

Recently, I discovered that the new Golf R is being shipped to Australia with either of the above tyres. I realise Volkswagen, along with other European makers, ship their fleet with different tyre brands/models, so it's a lottery which will be supplied with custom orders, but I'm curious to know what new Golf R owners or other forum members think is a better tyre. Of course, the term better is completely meaningless unless it's qualified with some parameter, but I will leave that up to respondents to make that reference.

I will make the comment that it annoys me that car manufacturer's have agreements with tyre suppliers for superseded models. In the case of the RE050A, this has been replaced by the S001 - arguably a superior tyre in every respect. In the Bridgestone Australia website, the following excerpt in a press release statement was made on 04/05/2011 (yes, 3 years ago!!): "The Potenza S001 is designed to give the world's most powerful vehicles even better handling than the Potenza RE050 it replaces." I'm sure this issue has been discussed ad nauseam, so I'm happy to suggest replies specifically refer to the tyres that are actually supplied.

                • I'm all set for next Wednesday delivery. Golf R white - tints all round.

                  Here are some Pics.

For all of you thinking about the cloth interior. Definitely worth considering. The grey inserts at the sides of the seats are a leather / suede material that keeps you in the seat. Very comfortable. The leather is not worth $3150.

                      • Believe it or not, darker cars look dirtier quicker than lighter colours.
Silver // light grey are the easiest to clean.
Black is a menace and should only be tamed by OCD car enthusiasts....
My CSG GTI was a challenge.

White cars just lose their shade of white when they are dirty and just become an off white.

Make sure you dont wear new-ish denim or the blue dyes will leach into the white suede very quickly.

                          • Well, my cars at the dealer, registered ready to go but the novated lease docs have been held up by my employer so Monday it is Managed to sneak in to the the Dealers detailer area to take a few snaps (and to sit in it and breath in the new car/leather scent And I must disagree re cloth instead of leather, to me it finishes the look, luxrious, super comfy and as it brings with it heated seats a huge win in my part of the world mid winter

It's like light leather interiors, look great new but do take a bit of work to maintain. Having said that, with most of a persons weight on the seat itself and only the bolsters in white I reckon it might be ok. Definitely looks the goods.

Yes I was. I noticed how bad things got in a grey leather GTR compared to the boring black one I had.
