  • my first venture in to the mk7 club...

    Hi everyone

I just picked up a 2015 mk7 Gti performance and thought I'd run a bit of diary on maintenance and any upgrades on here as I have found it handy to refer back to in the past...

this one had two previous owners and 172,000k on the clock but its mint. I don't how he kept it so clean and tidy...

he said he ceramic coated it once year which I can believe...

probably even right down to the brake callipers, they are ridiculously clean...

and zero wear on the drivers bolster, unheard of (foam has sagged a bit though)...

Wow that does look remarkably clean and tidy for a car that has done 170,000km. Im guessing it has spent a lot of time on the freeway because that's about 30 odd thousand km per year. And obviously whoever owned it previously has either taken care of it themselves of had it regularly cleaned by someone else. Bit of a unicorn in the used car world I must say. Well done.

Depending on what you might be looking to do with this, I have some parts that are still either brand new (unused still in boxes) or in amazing 2nd hand condition to suit the Mk7 GTI. If they haven't been replaced already, the lower control arms might be on your to-do list as they are a known failure point and cause creaking, in which case I have a brand new set of Whiteline KTA252 alloy control arms you may be interested in.

yep, its definitely made an impression on me and I might give it a go myself on the gti next year. I've always been too worried to apply it to an expensive car in case I wreck it...

as per usual I said I wasn't going to modify this one for performance as its meant to be a cheap comfortable daily driver to cart the dog around and lend to visitors when they stay...

but my parents complained about lack of induction noise and throttle response when they were over last time so I bought this lot in order to help...

I decided to test the cheaper options out there as I don’t expect the car to get much abuse and it’s a bit of a test to see if the fitment is any good or complete garbage. I’ll report back once fitted…

Nice. You did mention upgrades in your first post so I was expecting this kind of post to pop up.

I've got another 2 and a bit years before I do anything engine wise on my 7.5 GTI.

I do like seeing other people's journeys so I can live vicariously through them.

thanks mate, I wasn't really intending performance upgrades. just upgrades to improve it as a daily driver, like apple CarPlay and the addition of the dog bone mount to stop wheel hop etc. both of which have been purchased and I'll upload photos as soon as they are fitted...

still, no one ever complained about having more horsepower so its quite likely to happen...

thanks mate, surprised how easy they were to install. I reckon it wouldn't have been much over 30 minutes and it was all in. I'll add photos next time I'm under the hood...

I have IE for both the ECU and TCU tune and cant fault it. The stage 1 high torque tune is really strong. Plus the convenience of being able to DIY the tune with the little dongle which can be purchased makes it so convenient. Both IE and 034 have just released an app for smartphone so you can now tune with the app too.

I have been a big fan for many years of the DIY type tunes where you do not need to make a booking and visit a workshop - and have used this DIY tune on various cars (both VAG and non-VAG). So with that in mind id recommend either IE or 034.

Note that both IE and 034 just had a sale on recently which might be finished now, but they do sales at various times throughout the year (10-15% off).

thanks for the info and advice Lucas but I decided to go with Revo last Friday as their sale ended that day. the main reasons I chose Revo is that their TCU tune has optimised shift points in D mode (034 doesn't) and that I'm highly unlikely to flash back to stock so didn't want the expense of buying a dongle to gather dust. Each to their own though as everyone wants different things from a tune...

                              waiting to get flashed...
