Just picked up a manual TDI and am very happy with it. Holds revs in each gear very simulate to my Amarok. Bought the wife a manual for her to learn / remember how to drive a manual so she is more comfortable in the Rok later.
I did't mind the DSG, however the manual will always be cheaper to service and theoretically more reliable. Rightly or wrongly I did deliberately keep away from 7 speed DSGs.

I've got a dsg in my r and my brother has a manual mk6 gti. As much as i love the dsg i have to admit I do look forward to taking his car out and throwing around the gear stick!rising blue golf r, 5dr DSG, adaptive chassis control, 19"s, sunroof, dynaudio, reverse cam, MDI,

It might be "grass is greener" scenario
I just had my car serviced and had a loan Passat 2.0 TDI dsg, and was quite impressed with that in both sports mode, and with the stick flicked across into manual mode. In fact, it is not easy to drive in S because it breaks out into bucket loads of wheelspin! So much torque in that too, great drive really.
The dsg gear changes are superb, so fast. But it still was annoying that it would change gears when it felt like. Still live my manuals the mostyou can have sedate and crazy, all by the most intelligent computer there is, your head
Just a shame the clutch pedal travel is quite large on the vw, making dsg level fast up changes impossible...

I went with a manual in my GTI. The main reasons were that I like a manual when pushing the car hard, my other half had an A3 for a while and I thought the DSG was a bit strange and I was worried about he cost of repairing the DSG gearbox.
The last point is pretty poor. Anything and everything could go wrong. I should have got a Toyota if I was truly worried. :p

Just updating this incase anyone is interested - my previous post depicting that my mates DSG was dead turned out to be incorrect......its the engine ECU that has died.
Dead ECU has been confirmed by European Car Centre in Newcastle after the car was towed there a few days ago. Got to get it towed to Audi/VW to get a new ECU installed and coded etc to his key/immobiliser. Old ECU had a Viezu tune too so that will now be lost and ill have to help him get another tune to suit the new ECU. Apparenty around $2,500 for the new ECU.
Im off to eat my hat now....

He is looking at approx $2,700 for a new mechatronics unit (from Harding Performance with a 3-4 week wait), DSG oil and filter change (needs to be done when replacing mechatronics despite having the DSG serviced about 1 year ago), and the labour component. It's going to be somewhere around $4,000 - 4,500.

Is that because Viezu tie their code to an ECU (as opposed to a car) and refuse to reload for free or is it because you don't want to go back there?
Thanks for the update

Makes sense.
They say they will replace the tune if VW reflashes it to stock so he may be in luck.
A place at Warners Bay is doing Viezu sales now so he may be able to get something sorted if he doesn't have the hand ccontroller.Audi S3. Sold
