Hmm, good for the value of the 3drs in our hands.

That's true...hopefully will make resale easier. Although, I don't plan selling my R until for quite a while.
Golf R ordered, here before I go old and grey: Expected delivery in August. Maybe.

I really dont understand the problem of allowing the 3DR to be ordered alongside other variants!? Very disappointed in VA.

Is cool having different versions of the car, and considering we wait longer than a baby takes to be created, why not allow a bit of customisation.. particularly if its available!

There were a number of changes however the 3 door item was effective immediataly as I understand it. So anyone who walked into a dealer today and tried to place an order would not be able to have it filled unless the dealer already had a build allocated in NADCON.

I don't recall the other items, from memory it was something about dynaudio and ACC not being allowable options on lower golf variants and one of the diesels being dropped I think.

In the end it won't really matter because as I said earlier, people have been able to get a hold of Tornado Red R's. It's not that VW is stopping manufacturing them, just disallowing them to be ordered here.

Bug your dealer enough, or talk to enough dealers and you'll have no trouble getting a 3DR. Bug them a LOT and maybe slip 'em a bribe, and chances are you can get a 3DR in Tornado Red!

Yeah - as per the 1st post. But again, these are all ordering changes.
These are different from "the aircon controls are now rubberrised black instead of shiney chrome" or "the gearshift knob now looks douchey" etc

LOL I didn't re-read the first post and couldn't remember what was said yesterday. The communication was titled MY12 changes so take that as you like. Any physical changes such as knobs etc have not been mentioned (yet).

I don't think it will be that easy - getting a different but existing colour sounds a lot easier to me than getting a model variant which is not locally offered anymore. Sounds much more difficult to me...

I don't see any difference in ordering a 3DR or a car in Tornado Red. As you rightly said, the 3DR is no longer being locally offered, but that's also the case with Tornado Red on the R. Neither are local offerings, so I don't see why one would be harder to get than the other.

Because it's a different model and not just a colour. But I don't want to argue - time will tell.

Different shell might be harder than different paint
We may have market specific safety modifications, like child restraint mounts, airbags,
Glad my car will be getting rarer , but frustrated that we've lost another 3dr car.
                          I didn't even consider the wrx cause it's 5dr
Maybe S3 will remain as the 3dr option?

But if they are trying to go for that 3 DR exclusive thing.. It's a bit lame.. And late! Everyone will always know the R32 and R came in a 3 DR, so it's a bit late for the 75% of buyers who know what they are on about.

Surely the 3 door thing is all about introducing the Scirocco?? If so, then it can't be a bad thing. After living in Europe the last couple of years and seeing them on the road, I can assure you that they are GORGEOUS! Too bad I never drove one

Hopefully it is. Last time they were getting rid of all 3 door models (except for the cheapest Polo) with no intention of bringing the Scirocco...
