Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A simple but very handy modification.
The hardest part was removing the gear shift surround. I cut a section out of a Chinese takeaway container lid and slid it into the gap between the two plastic assemblies. Then it's simply a matter of carefully lifting the surround up and out.
The buttons and covers are available here.
The mechanics of the mod are explained here.
Power for the LED's comes from the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) button connection.
Just piggyback the buttons and covers off this connection.

The garage door button seems a bit gimmiky at first (and expensive for a button), but once you install it you realise what a cool little mod it really is. Makes you feel a bit "James Bond" every time you cruise down the street and push it to open the garage door as well. Its neatly integrated and looks OEM too.
On a side note, i just did my first oil change today (5,000km / 6 months) and installed my ECS Aluminium oil filter housing and ECS magnetic sump plug. Fresh oil, new filter and ECS parts =
