Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I'll have to double check but im pretty sure mine wasnt that expensive. From memory i paid just over $100 for the garage door switch and also a blank R button, and that included delivery.

From memory the 'push-button' type was cheaper.. there was a difference of about 10 or 20 euros more for the 'switch' type??

I'll have a bit more of a look around.. Surely there's another supplier out there.. But if the choice in the end is between a nice OEM looking button or a bogo switch under the steering wheel then bugger it.. I'll go with the former and fork out the $100.

Not sure if you guys have seen or know about this place. I bought a few things from them recently. Good range of OEM stuff and decent prices. Might be good to compare this stuff to ECS Tuning if you need something. Their shipping prices are better than ECS.

        • Thanks Lucas_R .. I've just ordered the switch:

          AUD$91.46 delivered ..

Once it's installed I'll throw some pics up .. Hopefully I can get lucky with the delivery time .. Reading through that link you posted it looks like some of the guys on there had to wait a while for them ..

          • Yes my order was quite slow (4 weeks delivery time plus 2 weeks order processing = 6 weeks in total) but other people got theirs much faster than me. Perhaps i caught them when stock was low or something?

Also fitted my new engine cover yesterday to compliment the VW Racing intake. So happy to cover up that ugly engine. Damn the stock engine cover is heavy....

And although not technically an "accessory", i painted my brake/wheel hubs and vented part of the disks the other day. They have a very light coating of silver colour on them from the factory but rust marks were already showing through. Some "cast iron" VHT heat proof paint fixed that problem. Good opportunity to do that while i was rotating the wheels.

It's 188KW at the flywheel stock, my figures are at the wheels.

Could be, however I was mainly interested in the difference. As we're all aware there are difference between dyno's reads, some high some low - you never know which one it'll be. My car was driven onto the dyno, baseline run was done then still while sitting on the dyno the ECU was flashed and straight after the second run was performed.

Agreed, when mine was dynoed in stock form it was 158 at the wheel and after tune was 185

                          • Agreed. My R made 186kw a few weeks ago with a Bluefin tune and VW racing intake. The differences from one dyno to another are massive. Id be more concerned with the difference in power, rather than the actual peak figure.
