My R is showing an average of 9.9l having done just over 10,000kms.
Highway driving can get down to high 7 or low 8 but it is lots of stops/starts and hills that adds to the fuel consumption. Not that I care, the stop/start at the traffic lights is the best bit.
Certainly didn't buy the car for fuel economy but i've been pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Maybe I need to thrash it a bit more...if only there wasn't a gazillion speed cameras around.
MY11.5 Golf R - Candy White 5 door - still giggling like a child when I drive it!
True, Candyman, and u are one of guy to show us what result can achieved by u personally, this is very personally view though due to way difference for personal driving habit

Maybe but if you compare the "official" figures for my MKV GTI and my upcoming R they are much closer than the posts above are suggesting.
Time will tell. Again, not a drama but interesting
The difference is, the MKV GTI can meet it's official figures, and even beat them (I know, I owned one too... even with the APR Stage 2 it could still make the figures). Golf R can't... I don't know anyone who is getting the 8.7L/100 combined. The only people who get anywhere near are people that drive it on freeways/highways mostly. The main problem is that it just can't do the 6.8L/100km on the highways. I'm sure if we had 80km/h free ways and highways it might be able to do that.. but they're 110km/h and 100km/h etc, and it can barely maintain 100km/h with an instananeous reading of 6.8L on flat ground.
Oh well. It's a good time to own an R, whilst fuel is still relatively cheap
i didn't mind it drink a bit more fuel, as long as it make me happy when i ride it, haha

Yeh the R's ones are b/s, well i can't come close to them.
Fwy (or smooth non stop) driving and it will do high 8/low 9's easy but I'm rarely in that scenario. Average mid 13's without much traffic but still can't seem to get it any lower without having fun. Though I bet it never saw such good economy when I swapped cars with Fab the other night, he almost fouled the plugs while his car got a proper Italian tune up!
Still better than my last car doing 20L/100 and me having to visit a servo twice a week. Wish they'd bring back full driveway service lol.
Anyway, where are all the posts with people doing cool stuff to their cars. BBK's, wheels, performance mods etc. Fark all this fuel economy stuff!

mostly in the tuning thread i'd say.
I've had the Evolve-Technik tune on my car for a month or so now and really enjoying it.
Really highlights how underdone the stock car is in the power stakes, although it probably wouldn't be as bad in stock form with the original UK spec power output.
Traction control becomes annoying now with the power though as it cuts in way too early and shuts down the power making it hard to corner smoothly under throttle (at least in the wet).
Certainly much easier to get wheelspin under throttle now, even in D
Dave - I'm thinking of buying a Prius and putting some V3's on it.... maybe will go some Volk rims as well to save even more fuel! Dood imagine the economy bro! You approve?
