Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just wondering as I'm about 3 weeks from putting in an order and I'm aware of an R available without the ACC but with some of the other options I was after in an attempt to avoid a long wait. (Want to replace my XR5 before the lease on it runs out )
I have the 19" running 40psi in the tyres and am an old fart and don't miss the ACC. I never tested the ACC and I guess I am not missing what I don't have or don't know about. If I bought another R I wouldn't go the ACC.

You will need to test for yourself. You may be more bump sensative than I am

    No guard rubbing for me

    • er...40.

I've now driven one with ACC and 19s and one witout ACC and 18s and tbh they seemed very similar in ride quality in the short time I was driving both. My current XR5 has had some wheel and tyre damage on the standard 18s due to potholes (actually blew a tyre on one !) but rides fairly compliantly for the rest of the time and I found the R set ups mentioned above probably a little more comfortable in ride by comparison.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

      • 19" on 40psi, with ACC in Sport Mode here. I LOVE IT!

Could even go to the "Super Sport" mode if it was an option. But I love rock hard rides. <- that can have 2 meanings.

        • Ride is a personal thang.. I think you will find that 19s without ACC would be fine, be aware that there a a few on this forum with buckled 19s as the combination of big rims and low profile tyres don't agree with our roads

          • I've never driven an R with or without ACC, but the research I did led me to opt for ACC. It appears from this thread that those with it love it and those without it don't miss it?????

Haha I do the same (19's with ACC for me), though when I have my "old man" moments or when the wife is riding with me, comfort mode is selected! ACC is more about altering the handling charateristics IMO, and Sport mode does make the steering feel more direct!

FYI Prodigy has an R with 19's and no ACC and he reckon's it's fine, especially on some of our questionable WA roads!

                !
I agree, but I do like the softer ride when cruising

                • I drive an R on 19"s and with no ACC. All good (but I did come out of a Clio sport - now that was a stiff ride)
A good mate got 19"s with ACC and we've obviously swapped at times. I don't see the benefit of having to look at the road ahead and press buttons to drive over it. My mate also admitted he's used it to play with for a few weeks but has never touched it since.
I can see a benefit if you want to hit Sport and have a blast, but if you're concerned about a harsh ride then youre not going to be using that often?

As for wheels rubbing? Not to date

                  • On 19's in Normal mode is same as 19's without ACC. I never put it into Sport mode unless I know the road but I do have it in Sport quite often. Sometimes if we are going out and wife has her boobs half out for all to see I deliberatley put it in Sport mode just for some cheap jollies. She has worked out what I'm up to now so less fun for me!!! lol.
