My bad, sounds like it is something coming from the pipes or your tyres are throwing up residue

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A good wax job will make it easier to remove, but you cant stop it from happening.Last edited by Fab_R; 23-05-2011, 10:23 PM.

A quick question please regarding the Milltek cat backs.
Am i correct in saying the resonated is not much louder than stock and the non-resonated still retains the flap in one pipe so is also pretty quiet at idle and low revs? I don't want anything too loud except for when giving it a boot full.MY11 Golf R - Rising Blue - 5DR - DSG - 19" Black OZ Ultralegerra - Leather - Sunroof - MDI - Euro Plates - Milltek Exhaust - Bluefin - SOLD

I wouldn't be too worried about it to be honest. If the car was running rich as hell, the white cars would have the whole area above the tailpipes completely black. Both my 32GTR and XR6T's in white after a few tanks were left a dark grey for a good 30-60cm area around the tailpipes using Shell (Sootymax we called it hehe)

Have enjoyed my R for three months now. Finally the DSG and I have gotten to know know each other well and I love it!
Observations (complaints?) the external mirror motor/heater dial has less feeling than Hitler.
The gutter at the top of the doors fills with rain, then empties into the Car (all over the door switchgear) if you lower the window.
The MDI iPod interface hangs (if you have Bluetooth) a few seconds after inserting the iPod. You always have to unplug and reconnect the device.
Apart from that, what a car!
Anyway, I'm sure it's been discussed somewhere, but can anyone recommend an APR dealer In Sydney? Hoping for good service and recommendations on a stage 1 tune
Cheers

Hey Whistler thanks for the feedback, happy to see your bitch list is very short, bodes well for my pickup this Thursday. Will a weathershield fix up the water splash issue..?
I like the view you have of the DSG it has been a concern for me reading all that has been put here to dateCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

Yes, I understand you concerns re the DSG. Have always gone manuals to date, but based on test drives and reviews I took the gamble and am so happy I did.
Enjoy!

Whats the manual VS DSG gearbox ratio with R owners??
I know i am amongst the vast minority having chosen a 6 speed manual (yes i chose it) instead of the DSG. It wasn't a money thing, it was a personal preference thing. I have always preferred manuals and the feel and control that you get with them. I have driven many DSG's (I have several friends and family with VAG cars, and i have driven many Audi's with DSG and even an R8 V10 with R-Tronic). Don't get me wrong, they are a great gearbox, but is the reason so many people have chosen them simply based on the fact that they are 0.5 seconds than a manual faster from 0-100kph? Or is it because you live in a big city and the start-stop traffic is annoying with a manual? Can can you or your partner not drive (or dont like driving) a manual? Or is it something else?
Im just surprised how many people are taking up the DSG option. I know times are changing and that many supercar makers are now switching to this type of technology, but in a sporty car, it has always been a manual gearbox that everyone craves............not anymore it seems.

AFAIK the Milltek has the flap valve regardless of whether it's resonated or not.| Golf R MY11 | DSG | 3 Doors | RB | Recaro | 19" Talladegas | ACC | Sunroof | BT | APR S1 | APR Carbonio | MillteK Sport CBE |
