Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • So i dropped my R off to have some rattles looked at that have finally given me the ****s, figured I'd get them to fit my replacement DSG paddles at the same time after having them in the cupboard for 8mths + hehe

Anyway they gave me a Tiguan 125TSI 4Motion to get to work. Ok so its not the 147TSI but seriously, anyone that came on here saying that they're a good option compared to the R is on crack. First thing I thought to myself when I got up there was, what a farken truck! And that's saying something because the R being a golf is hardly sporty.

Don't care how much power you put through it, nothing will change the fact that its an SUV and feels bloody huge. You might be able to get rid of the float with some suspension work but I just don't get the point. Had to say it, much to Corey's delight I'm sure!

LOL Dave, i wouldn't go as far as saying the Tiguan is a truck and by no means is it a large SUV, in fact it's one of the smaller one's on the market. As far as handling and performance, standard anyways, there is a big difference i agree.

We have the 147 and it goes damn well and will embarrass many sedans from the lights but i wouldn't have the confidence to take corners like i do in the R. It is an SUV after all, the wife loves it, it's got plenty of power and enough room for the kids so i think it does it's job well.

I must add though, the wife still loves any opportunity to drive the R.

          • I have driven a Tiguan a few times - a friend has one.

I have also driven a new Forester a few times as my uncle has one, and the previous shape Outback countless times as it's my dads daily driver.

The Outback is by far the best handling of them all.

I won't be buying a Tiguan any time soon if that is the case. My wife also drives an Outback and I think its handling is terrible. Try hitting a bump whilst cornering, it feels like it moves a couple of feet across the lane.

                      • Hehe - even I get that (although I think it's more to do with the weight shifting to the back, not good for an FF car).
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

                        • Something I noticed when looking at a parked R with 19" Talledagas. The valve stems appears overly long. Side on it appears to be too long. God forbid a dreaded gutter rash incident, it looks like the valve stem might also get clipped. Are all the stems this long or an oddity on this one. Maybe it's due to the low profile tyre and lack of side wall bulge.

                          • I noticed recently when washing my car that there are a number of black spots, that I can only assume are burnt oil, up the rear bumper & tailgate.
We aren't talking shed loads but enough to notice.
Firstly has anybody else noticed this?
& secondly should I be worried?
