I wonder if that is due to heat soak or the software protecting everything as the clutches start to heat up etc. bloody impressive numbers though, when u do quarter mile it make sure the film is rolling for us!
It's a problem that isn't limited to the R, and is mainly due to only having one reverse light. It's a pain, only made somewhat better with the RVC.
Yeah it was a new thing for me having driving Fords the last few years which have headlights for reverse hehe. The R and the Polo seem to be pitch black. I'll get used to it eventually!
Also, after comments that Dave_R made a while back, I tried S mode whilst the cruise control was active. Doing 80km/h along a major 80km/h road, it was extremely amusing how THE MOMENT you touch the accelerator it drops a gear immediately. But that's just from the lightest of touches. Any more than a light touch and it drops two or three, depending on how far you push the accelerator... awesome
Haha yeh other people around you must think you're being a hoon cos for me it would always drop 6th to 4th or sometimes 3rd and be reving fairly high lol. It does the same if you brake since CC is disabled.

I did some logging of the DSG with LC on a stock car and the overall temp doesn't change much. The clutch skyrockets for a short period and then comes back to normal without much fuss. Not sure if they have an oil cooler under there or decent headsink design?

If you look at the Golf R's front grills, the driver side one is actually filled in, but the passenger side one has a "deep set" radiator in there (it's far in, and is therefore pretty dark, but have a look, it's there). I'm pretty sure that it is the DSG oil cooler. So this means after doing a LC, if you keep driving at any decent constant speed, the oil should be cooled by the wind coming in that intake.
Dave, how long after did it take for the clutches to calm down. Minutes, seconds?
Yeah, I'd like to know that too.
I'm sure that information would also be useful to compare with the elapsed time between Fab_R's runs, and to know the driving he was doing (i.e. constant speed for a few mins, or slowing down to another stand-still), to shed some light on the drop off in times on repeated runs.
Clutch oil temps went from about 96 to 112 while holding it at the lights for say 3-4 seconds? Peaked around 137 over a ~5 sec LC "event". Below 120 again around ~3-4 seconds later and back to normal after about 15-20secs? The "Temperature Transmission Fluid" value went up 2 deg for the same time and stayed there. But really like any data, its only as useful as the person reading it...ie me LOL. So take it with a grain of salt until someone with more understanding of this stuff steps up

Haha from my Jap experience I kept thinking that was the factory I/C! Didn't you grab the workshop stuff from erwin? I'm curious to know now!

I'll do some data logging with fab next time we catch up (or just leave my cable with him to play around on his private roads)
A quick question Im looking at the LED number plate lights for my R and I was wondering if they are legal in NSW. Ive looked on the internet and cant find the answer.
2010 MY11 Golf R - Rising Blue - 5DR - DSG - 19" Silver Talladega's - Leather - Sunroof - MDI - Custom Euro Plates.
Currently parked in my parking space
This one has 350bhp and some other bells and whistles but only does 0-100 in 5.0secs. How a Stage 1 APR ECU tune alone can give a 4.7s sprint is beyond my comprehension....hmmm....

Sometimes certain aftermarket companies tune for the highest killerwasps and sacrifice torque and/or flat powerbands. Also, whilst I only looked at the video briefly, we couldn't really see how he did the launch, and it was very rainsoaked road, which looked very average quality (pavers/bricks etc at the side of the road etc)
So, I picked up my R today from Barloworld Five Dock, and I've only had a chance to take it on a short drive in traffic to the paint shop to get the wheels re-done in gunmetal... but all I can say is WOW! What a car, just loving the feel of it, and all the improvements from my MKV GTI. Build quality is awesome, blue tooth interface rocks, I love the low hum of the exhaust, and really enjoy the "notchy" feel of the DSG when changing from the DSG gear knob. Great car and very happy about the purchase. Now just gotta wait another 3 days to get it back again for the weekend
The wait has definitely been worth it
By the way, has anybody removed the front VW badge yet? If so how do you do it without wrecking the badge?

Yep, i've removed mine and one on a fellow members R. The tutorial in the thread that silvrfoxx posted was a great help. I replaced mine with a Gloss Black Emblem:

Well, you can hear the announcer say a few minutes into the presentation, that "Tara Yada Vada - and we also have the weight of the camera man on board". And that test driver has to be 110kg+++
There's your 4.5.
Just wondering also R owners, if your car is fitted with a heap of options doesn't that add to the weight and therefore the 5.7 DSG time? I mean 19's, sat nav, dynaudio, Bluetooth, rvc, ( and for some people leather) that has to add some moderate weight!

Hey thanks for pointing out the tutorial Prodigy and SilverFox. I got my black emblem from the same place as well, but I'm getting it painted the same gunmetal as the wheels, hope it looks good. Find out friday!
By the way, I bought mine from parts4euro as well (http://www.parts4euro.com/DCShop/pro...oducts_id=1130) however in the tutorial photo it looks like the honeycomb style insert on the emblem is part of the emblem itself, is this correct as my replacement doesn't have the honeycomb backing, its just the VW bit. Is this how yours was too, and do you just reuse the the backing on the original emblem (hope that makes sense)?

Yeah it does. But I mean, the car already weighs 1496kg, so it's not quite the same as adding those things to a 1100kg car
Either way, be greatful the cars aren't weighed "as delivered", cause then many of us would be paying the next (giant) leap up in rego costs!
