When I test drove the R, turbo lag was my main issue, if what you're saying is true, its a shame I can't test drive an APR'd one. Actually.........what if I were to arrange a test drive, take it to the APR dealer (literally 5 mins from VW) and get a trial tune! A bit cheeky but, hey maybe I'll be interested in buying one. Funny tho, the 2 or 3 guys that test drive it after me will think it stonks out of the box, order one and when they received theirs (in 9 months) they'll be going back to the dealer complaining that their new car is not as quick as the demo one they drove!
It's STILL going to drive differently to the R, and there is still "lag" there. There is just less of it, and then WAY more oomph when you're in the powerband.
As for taking the demo up to APR... that'd be pretty dishonest! If both the dealer and the APR dealership were made aware of it then it'd be ok, but yeah...
The other thing you could do is give the local APR dealership a call, and see whether they have an R themselves. If they dont, maybe they could take your number and give it to one of their happy customers who may be ok with meeting up and taking you for a drive...
Ok so I am currently having a running verbal stoush with a work colleague who drives a 2002 Porsche Boxster. He reckons I'm full of it telling him that an APR stage one Golf R can achieve 0-100 in 4.7 seconds even after showing the g-tech evidence online. Says something along the lines of " a full second difference with a software ECU mod.... pffft...NO WAY mate..." Refuses to believe it or Fab_R's time of 4.3 with APR stage 2. Man I wish this guy could be taken for a spin in your R Fab! Would love to see him eat some humble pie...
Lol @ the Porsche guy...
1) He drives an NA and may not be familiar with turbo cars. There is WAY more to be gained from chipping OEM turbo cars than OEM NA cars... whether BMW, Porsche, Audi, whoever.
2) He's just jealous because a hatchback costing a 1/3 of his car is quicker

Lol...give me his address, im Geelong a fair bit, happy to take him for a hell ride. (Seriously though i will take him for a spin)
Took a mate for a drive who has a VT GTS with an LS7 fully spec'd to do track days...serious car this..about 350RWKW this thing, its an animal.
He admitted that the R was quicker after a drive of it!
He then went on to say to get this thing at the next track day!!!!
Yes, 240kw and 435Nm. These are engine dyno numbers (same as VW's 188kw/330nm), not wheel numbers.

yeah the crazy thing is he is a smart guy and actually used to have one of the fastest Nissan Exa's modified himself in the country years back and now races and builds drag motorbikes nationally. He knows alot about cars, just one of your typical skeptics I guess. Don't understand his attitude at all in face of the evidence, but maybe Fab can change his mind lol

Lol! Yeah as I mentioned in my reply to Corey he is a smart guy with alot of car/bike knowledge so I don't get why he is such a skeptic at all. Anyway will see what he says about Fabs offer when I speak to him later today!

be cheaper for you to fly to Maroochydore direct from Adelaide and have demo in one of the two tuned demo Garry Crick have.

Don't really need the Intercooler as I'm not doing repetitive Track runs where cool air ensures Turbo continuity, right?? is the noise coming from the Divorced exhaust? while the power from Fuel pump and intake.
also how will the UNIbrace effect the ACC I'm wondering? if at all...

Told you hehe!
Anyway last night wacked my stock R on the dyno just for ****s and giggles. Its an AWD Dyno Dynamics. If anyone wants to debate the pros/cons of dynos forget it, I'm just putting it up as an FYI. This was the 3rd run, the first 2 were within a kw or 2 less.
FWIW, a mates stock manual TT-RS on the same dyno, with the same operator blah blah made 200awkw. It now has an APR tune and made another ~30-40kw on another dyno, hasn't been run up on the same one yet. But we had a few runs from the lights with LC and in gear and the stock R was a big surprise. The TT just rockets off due to not having that initial DSG delay on take off but 75% of the gains were clawed back at gear changes due to the DSG. In gear from 2nd gear, it wasn't until much higher speed that the TT starts to get legs on the R. Just a bit more power and who knows how that might change. So.....

Thanks man. I know that there is nothing to compare this to, but this is the first time someone has posted a STOCK R on a dyno. It will help when people say things like "Why does a Stage 1 R only make 188 at the wheels when a stock one makes 188!". hehe
In any case, tonights home work assignment for you is to go and get Stage 1 done and get your car dynoed again!
Edit, oh, I better add a to that so someone doesn't come along and tell me that you've already said you're getting it done tomorrow, hehe
Well my work colleague has accepted Fabs invitation to go for a spin in his R, so Fab I have PM'd his mobile number to you! Time will tell if he is going to accept that the APR mods to the R really do make a difference (esp with software only Stage 1 which he has a particular problem with) and the times posted by Fab_R and others with the R are real and not pulled out of Fairyland!

is it imagination or has Vader increased its' noise since Stage 1 tune done? Notice a slightly deeper resonance. Corey_R you notice anything?
The increase in noise is probably due to the fact you are giving it a bootfull everywhere to experience the newly unleashed power thanks to the ecu remap.
Since it is just an ecu update and no hardware changed i doubt it would change the "loudness" of the vehicle.

LOL have put pen down three times today and gone out for a bootfull of joy. my imagination going wide yet again... logic dictates that you're correct. others must be impressed too, I keep seeing flash bulbs going off as i drive down the street.
